Good to see something to rival Nikon's version

It looks very interesting. I'll be curious to see some real life shots from it, and also seeing the price.

f/5.6 would be ok for wildlife but not great for sport.

It will take a few months before there are reliable reviews out there.

indeed, I wonder would it be possible that is is f/4 given that the 1.4X is integrated ?

but then you would imagine they would want to highlight that - better marketing

The 1.4x is matched for the lens when it goes on its f5.6

If the quality is good on this lens and gets good reviews I might trade it in
for my 100-400 IS ... not sure if the quality will be as good tho....

The Nikon 200-400 is around €6000

Would be nice if you could remove the integrated extender - not clear where that is possible. f/5.6 is a v. small aperture to be working with unless your body is good at high ISO...Not, of course that I am in the market for one :)

The nikon is nice so if this is anything like that then great but the 1.4 might be pointless for some users.

    Very versatile though..

ouch, ok if the Nikon version is €6k perhaps the canon version will be similar

I'd say 6k would be a close enough guess.

The 1.4x extender, shooting f/5.6 would be fine for wildlife. Not much use to us sports shooters, unless light is good.

I know a guy that uses the Nikon version for shooting motorbikes

Think sportsfile have a few of the nikon version but then again the d3x is very good in low light...

Zombie thread, but B&H just launched it at $11,799, crazy if you ask me, my 70-200 f2.8 and x2 extender offer near enough the same

Maybe with the focal length, but not with aperture/quality.

    From DPReview - http://www.dpreview.com/news/2013/05/14/canon-announces-ef-200-400mm-f4l-is-usm-1-4x-extender-telezoom-with-built-in-switchable-teleconverte

-- It will go on sale on 29th May, at an RRP of £11999.99 / €11800.

Mad price. I'm much better off keeping my 400mm f/2.8 lens, and adding a 1.4x TC. I then have the same max length but greater aperture. But, of course, no zoom on that.
