Who To Turn Too for Carpets and Wood Flooring?

    Hey Folks,

Are Des Kelly the default choice for carpets and wood flooring? The missus rang them up for a quote today which seemed kind of expensive. We have bought a 79 square metre house. Downstairs we'd want some wood panelling in the living room and upstairs two bedrooms, hallway and landing.

We don't want the best on offer nor the cheapest. For a job less than 79 square meteres she was quoted €1400. Does this sound about right?

What other companies can we look at?

personally, i wouldnt touch des kelly with a barge pole - had a terrible expierence with them.

there are hundreds of carpet shops around - where are you based?

got my wooden flooring from Noyeks, again there are hundreds of flooring companies.

I wouldn't go near Des Kelly again either after my experience. Purchased a good quality carpet from them for fitting in hallway and 2 bedrooms. After several issues Des Kelly eventually had to replace carpet and underlay at their expense. Cowboys.

The Carpet Showroom in Arnotts might be worth a look, I've also heard good things about Allied Carpets.

As for wooden flooring, what i did was put an ad up on Online Tradesmen giving details as to the type of floor I wanted, size etc. Got about a dozen responses and six quotes. Some of them a lot cheaper than others. Happy with end result. Mulveys in Dundrum might be of help

Thanks for the responses folks. I've heard bad things about DK from a colleague and someone else so they were ruled out. In the end we went with Bargaintown.

I can't really say if the price was good or not as I didn't realize there was such a variety of options to choose from. I'll know better next time around as we don't intend on the current flooring to be permanent.

Des Kelly and Bargintown will be about the cheapest and will more or less match each other on price.

Theres allways a Des Kellys and a Bargintown place on the same street as each other or in the same industrial estate.

I went to Floors and Carpets Direct in the Egan Centre in Bray. Delighted with the result and was able to haggle the price down with them.

We got all our wooden flooring from Noyeks . They had a great range and a very good price at the time.
