Would depend what kind of mileage you would be looking to do Jim.

There are some nice paths near the marina which is only about a mile from the city centre on the south side of the river.

One of the nicest in Cork. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4279972

I'd recommend laps of the Lough.

Finish up with chips, 2 batter sausage, a cheese and onion pie and a carton of curry from Lennox's.

The Marina is a good option as mentioned earlier or on the west side of the city you can go through Fitzgerald's Park & then continue on the walkway along the river to the Lee Fields - http://goo.gl/maps/hOfl

From the city centre, you have two main possibilities:

Mahon/Marina - This takes in part of both the Cork City Marathon and the new Cork City Half Marathon. Note: The two hills in the elevation profile are both due to trees - those particular sections are absolutely flat!

If you're on the western side of the city, you have two choices:

    The Lee Road/Carrigrohane Road circuit
    and
The Farm, a 2.35 mile circuit on grass.

Maybe not for the OP but I had a cracking run a while back from the city centre - get the heart going up to Mayfield and trot along the Old Youghal Road before dropping down again and following the Lwr Glanmire Road and the river back into town.

I've done this a couple of times the opposite way, great run alright, heart rate certainly went up...actually it nearly went flat!
