Best option for replacing Sky box

I have a SKY + box in my living room which I am going to hold on to, but I also have an ordinary SKY box in the bedroom which I am going to get rid of (it's part of a multi room package and I no longer have a phone line)

So can someone tell me :
    1) If I get rid of my SKY subscription on this box, can I still pick up free to air channels through this same box?
    2) What would I need to do and what would it cost me to set up a Free Sat box instead?

    Thanks.

just remove the viewing card, unplug the box and restart it.

both boxes will still work. (you will loose the ability to record though. )

you could buy a freesat box like this will give you the recording capabilities and hd , its just a matter of plugging in.

Remove the sky card unplug the box for a few minutes.

Turn it back on without the sky card inside

    Instead of RTE 1 + 2 TV3 etc

you will have BBC 1+ 2 etc instead all free to air

ITV 1 2 3 and 4 are on channels higher up a long there are also + channels there as well

there's a frequency thread in satellite for adding other channels for free also

you will not lose the ability to record, as you are only getting rid of the standard box but still paying the sub for the + box.(If I am reading the OP correctly)

if you have sky + box and cancel sky and revove sky card ,you will loose record feature on sky box and also wont be able too view any recorde content on your sky + or sky hd +
