India - Bangalore to Goa or Kerala or any recommendations

I'm heading to Bangalore to watch a couple of Ireland's games in the Cricket World Cup - I'm going to take a week after to chill out and was thinking of heading to Goa or Kerala. Anyone got any recommendations in either of those places or somewhere else maybe a bit nearer to Bangalore?

Don't want to stay in fleapits or 5* hotels that could be anywhere but a nice comfortable beach house would be preferable.

visit mysore palace - sample of richness of India. its 2hrs on road
about goa or kerala -
goa - western culture in india. full of pubs, sunny beaches, hippy culture
kerala-backwaters, full of natural beauty.

I'm planning to go to Mysore while in Bangalore, in between games.

Goa is a last resort really, i'm trying to find out opinions from people who've been in either Kerala or Goa or elsewhere in South India perhaps nearer to Bangalore and might have personal recommendations, not interested in hanging out with a load of Gap year students - just somewhere interesting but also with a beach nearby for chilling as I've only a few days there.

goa has beaches
kerala has a beach in trivandrum. also it has backwaters.
a short ride on the boat house will be nice.
kerala has beautiful hill station.
weather is getting warmer day by day. so watchout.

if you want to drink, niteout then head to goa. if not goto kerala.
there are other historical places, temples if you are interested around bangalore. let me know what you want to see, may be i can suggest. chennai and mangalore has a beach too. (i am from bangalore)

Thanks, looks like Kerala will win out, done a bit of research and it sounds really interesting.

Yeah any day trips from Bangalore would be great to hear about.
