Oil has gone up so much in price that's the reason for the rise in fertilizer and wrap costs.

Shop around. Last week I bought all my wrap for this summer - it was last years's stock and he wanted to get rid of the last pallet to make place for this year. Last year's price too - €62 per roll.

There is no recession anywhere except in this scorched earth country, after the fallout of cleaning up the toxic pollution spilt across the land, by the inept and corrupt banker / government / regulater axis of the past 10 years.
The world has thrown off the recession and crisis. Cost of silage plastic, fertilizer, etc, will be driven primarily by oil price. With rising demand for oil, price is going only one way. Up.
Cattle prices may be up, but you can be sure the net margin wont be much better for average farmer as pretty much all inputs will be well and truley up. Feed. Fertilizer. Wrap. Diesel.
Still, better be muddling away in farming than drowning in samll businesses, like shops, cafes, pubs, building trade etc,.

There's various places across Northern Ireland

McCorry Agri in Derrylin 048-67748343 and Cassidy's in Ballyconnell/Derrylin (049)9526527 are the ones that I always deal with for both wrap and fertilizer. Usually both have the one price.

As usual I advise staying away from the Quinn Wrap as the quality isn't in it.

I heard of Cassidy's in Ballyconnell are they supplying visqueen ? We are paying 59 euro per roll here in Cork

They had Visqueen last year. I don't know what they have this year. Visqueen is far better stuff than the Quinn wrap.

I said that last spring and got the head ate off me by posters who said that I should buy Irish

I wrapped all bales with it in 2008 and wasn't happy with it at all. Its fine if you use 6 layers, but I only use 4.

How many people use 6 layers?

I use 6 layers for all my silage.
I find it preserves better and if you have bales left over they are fine the following year.
I used some quinn this year havent noticed any difference but im not sure what bales i used it on.

21 wraps is just over 4 1/2 layers. With an extra 3 turns of the table you would have the full 6 layers on them :D

I used a lot of silowrap las year and some vizqueen for a neighbour. Both saw me getting down to tie on wrap after it broke a lot less times than the year before with the Quinn wrap. Also found the quinn wrap to be very easily damaged with teh bale handler - no tears but mushrooms grew along the lines of the bars of the bale handler on the bale IYKWIM
