TL DR etc=me confused

    Guys what does TL DR mean and where did it originate?

    Does it mean?; 1) Tell Doctor-that guy in AH.

    2) To Lose The Rag.

    3) Is it a reference to that company from Wall Street.

    4) Is it some secret code to ban a Newbie.

    I've been on here for nearly 3 years and still don't get it along with a lot of the other weird(to me) shorthand stuff. Txt speak is not allowed and rightly so, but shouldn't geek-speak(for want of a better-word) at least have a glossary somewhere for the boardily-challenged? Perhaps a guide to all these old idiosyncrasies?

    What's the reason for being reasonable?

    Is that an unreasonable question?

    I'm sorry, but asking something like "What does tl;dr mean" on boards.ie on the internet without checking google, is as foolish as the coffee cup with the warning, "may contain hot liquids"

    etc = et cetera.

    Over the years Ive come across stuff like that, and always had to do a quiet google search to see what the heck people are on about. :) Always felt asking made me seem a bit wet behind the ears. That kind of abbreviation is common around the net, not just here, there are very few dedicated pieces of boards speak or legends that are exclusive to boards. Google will generally solve most conundrums. Otherwise is the boards wiki might help.

    The injokes you just have to stick around long enough to learn. :D

    There's also a guy/gal called Opr who always signs their posts, and when I see it I always go "what does Opr mean?" before realising it's their name :rolleyes:

    I had exactly the same question about tl;dr when I started working for Boards.ie, stevejr, so I wouldn't feel in any way silly about asking.

    Dont worry op, I thought TCN referred to the cartoon network for years. It kinda does, when you think about it. :)

    They should have used this tbh.

    One finds it does the job more adequately, so one does.

    IRL used to have me confused for a while. I always wondered why people would put in a reference to Ireland in their posts, made no sense..then the penny dropped.
