    Hi Floks,

Did a search but couldnt find anything on this.. Its only a quick question..

Basically im looking to rent a place and we have two in mind. Both same size and price but one has oil and one has gas heating.

Which one is cheaper to run? Gas or Oil?

    Thanks in advance!!!

6 of one and half a dozen of the other tbh.... It depends on quite a lot of factors.

If both houses have the same heat loss characteristics
and if both boilers have the same efficiency
and if both boilers have been properly serviced and maintained
    .
    .
    .
then gas is cheaper to run ... see here:

No Contest,Gas is far superior to Oil for reasons besides performance.
You won't run out of Gas. You don't need to be at home to take in a delivery.
Oil Boilers will let you down when you need them most.

both are equally good when serviced properly, not realy one superior to the other, sky 6 must have been stood up on a date by an oil boiler..:), i have been let down and very happy by both sources over the years, but again, rarely get problems with a regularly maintained units

It also depends on your usage. I have a customer who gets 500 liters and it lasts him about 6 to 7 months and the reason is he hardly ever has it on, he loves the cold :). He goes away for long periods so no standing charge like gas.

    Fact:

Oil is currently 40% dearer than natural gas per kW.

Trust me I know, trying to convert at the moment
