    Hi there,

Quick question about putting a car back on the road after about a year(little '00 clio as a run around), NCT and tax are out.

Anyone know what order do I need to get the big three; NCT, Tax and Insurance?

    Thanks :)

Insurance, Tax and then NCT would be the way to go.

    Thanks!

    Whats the reason behind that?

I need insurance before tax, and tax before NCT is it?

The reason being, you shouldn't be near a public road without insurance... so that's always #1. It's also got the biggest consequences if you either crash or get caught by a Gardai without it.

#2 would be tax as it's the next in the line of severity as it's tax evasion if you don't have it and the car will most likely be seized if it's out by more than a couple months and you'll face a fine and have to backdate your tax as well as pay the fees for however many days your car was impounded for.

#3 is NCT. While it now carries a lot more points (5 I think, and I also think they can even seize your car if your NCT is out now too) than it used to, it doesn't come close to the severity of no insurance or tax and you obviously need to drive the car to the NCT centre at some point so there's no way around driving the car without NCT in that instance.

That reminds me, my NCT is 3 months out -_^
