I have a letter coming from the UK and the tracking code on royal mail just says it's been given to Ireland. Not sure how to find out where it is and when it will arrive as I need to arrange to be there when it's supposed to arrive.

the royal mail operates in northern Ireland as well,so best just to call the head office up there

Once it gets to Irish post office, it just gets thrown in with the standard mail. They are not obligated to track or obtain a signature for it so they don't (usually they still request a signature though).

Thats what I was told from the depot in Tallaght a few years ago.

Ever go to a sorting office? Or see the postman arrive in your workplace postroom?

An Post has loads of the Royal Mail sacks they use. Seems they get them and never give them back

Somewhere there is a Royal Mail manager cursing An Post as a shower of thieves :D

No point in ringing your DO, ring customer services directly and give them the track and trace number. They'll be able to tell you where it is. Alternatively you can check it yourself here. If it's in the country that might help.

In general, when a letter is sent internationally you can track it using the barcode on the receiving country's post office's network.

Put the Royal Mail barcode/item number (including the letters) into the An Post track and trace system : http://track.anpost.ie/track/trackone.html

If it's out for delivery in Ireland, it'll appear.

A barcode's a barcode, it'll get read by the system regardless of who stuck it on.
