    hey-my primastar(40k km) wouldn't start today

checked the dip stick and it was way over max and all sludge

the engine oil was mixed with rainwater and apparently it's getting in through the air filter

anyone familiar with this-just trying to figure out the cause of it

    thanks

thought it might be the head gasket but apparently not

Yark. Sounds like it's ruined. Get thee to a garage.

It's the engine being on strike for being put in a vehicle so ugly

    Cylinder head gasket gone.
    Usually the result of overheating.
Possibly due to having run out of coolant recently, or overheat during the freezeup due to driving through deep snow (high load on engine) while radiator grille was covered with snow.

    back on road

apparently a couple of litres of rainwater in engine-came in through air filter:confused:

id really love to know how.

if thats the case then there must be a far bigger underlying problem.

through the cover on filter he said

had it serviced 2 months previously

when you say underlying problem what do you mean

Your as lucky as a cut cat. Your engine could have been fcuked..

well, forgive my ignorance, but isint there a housing around the air filter to keep it dry, and if that fails isisnt there a bonnet over the air filter housing to keep that dry

and even if water made it to the air filter, a few liters heading straight into your engine would cause havoc, its not something you could drive along with unawares.

A couple of litres of water entering your engine in this manner would certainly Wright off your engine period. at best you would end up with a couple of bent con rods, water entering through the intake ends up on top of the piston and water isn't compressible

Good auld Renault engine ha ha ! I know the air intake is quite low on the Primastar/Trafic's and can let water in through the air system, it usually means curtains for the engine if it does get that far though ! as above poster said, you are very lucky ! You must have gone through a flood or some puddles at speed lately to allow that much water in.... Drive her on !

is it possible for water to accumulate like this-without noticing?

or would it be a single flooding incident?

the oil on dipstick was like tar and way up
