2FM TV ad

Sorry if this is OT, it's not a worst radio ad so didn't fit there and it's on telly so I'm kind of unsure but...

Anyone else find that 2FM TV slot with Hector, Tubs, Baz & Lucy and Colm Hayes the most pretentious, annoying pile of crap ever? It just reminds me of why I wouldn't want to listen to 2FM if I'd a choice.

Hector: funny in small doses but you don't want to have to listen very morning. Tubs: I won't even start! Lucy & Baz: don't like Lucy's presnting style and never took to Baz, Colm Hayes: Guy I like and enjoy his show in small doses but the good thing is that they broke him off from Jim Jim Nugent.

The ad is just a pretentious, annoying load of nonsense and it reflects badly on the presenters for going along with it IMHO. The tubs bit I get, young fogey and all that but as for the rest of them, I don't see any particular personality traits that can be discerned and that the ad is based on.

Frankly it screams 'We've a crap line up and instead of doing something radical, we'll just do our usual incestuous thing and poach a bunch of people from telly, throw them at a microphone and hope they do well'. BORING!!!

Do you like RTÉ's current television ad for 2FM? 18 votes

When Tubridy raises his eyebrow for the close-up, I take off my shoes and throw them at the telly.

Then I go on a wild rant until my missus asks me to stop and tell my "internet friends" instead...:o

I feel your pain brother, I was thinking of installing a chicken wire screen to protect the TV from random flying objects fcuked in anger at it, and there is alot of anger these days

Agree, it does my head in too. It would be hard to find a more annoying line-up of people for an ad.

It reminds me to stay well clear of 2fm at all times. Hector, he puts me in a bad mood once I hear him anywhere at anytime, so can't imagine what it must be like 1st thing in the morning. Tubridy after would just add insult to injury.

Surely these guys can't be doing well in the jnlr thingy, or has there been any recent indicators as to how they are doing.

For me, they've focused on their worst....and most irritating.....broadcasters for this new ad campaign:confused:

Doesn't bother me either. Quite a well made ad.

Seeing as 2fm is supposedly financially independent from RTE, I wonder how much that ad cost to make and run repeatedly during prime time slots?

Seems that way. As when I go home yer man Will Leahy is pretty good. I find myself listening to him from 4.30 on and its a good show. But of course not a sign of him on any tv ad as he is unknown and actually good.

Though they're not featured in the initial stages of the ad if you look closely at the final line-up when they take their seats, just before the promo ends, you'll see the "Real" original 2FM DJs, Dave Fanning and Larry Gogan but they don't get a look-in otherwise because they're not TV personalities.

Yep I feel your pain, it's a stupid add, once ya see hector that's it i'm gone! I can't stand him! Don't find him funny at all!

I think it's pretty good. Just a second or two of the most annoying "personalities" on the 2fm books. And the styling is clever. No great fan of Hector but whoever thought of putting him in warpaint... Brilliant. Tbh, I find the radio version of the ad - the one where they've all piled into the same car and Tubs is squabbling with Zig and Zag for the car pool from hell - is my get-angry-at-inanimate-objects moment

I actually like that ad. Now it is useless in making me listen to 2FM (I only listen when there is nothing on elsewhere) but I like the ad....

2FM is a beaten docket. It's unfair that RTE use the TV Tax they receive to make ads while their competitors(Today Fm etc) have to stump up their own cash to get their ads on TV. It's wrong.
