Im naturally brown haired. Have been having blonde highlights for 14 years and keep it in good condition. Had a moment of pure madness yesterday where I got my friend to dye it auburn for me and I HATE it!
I don't know what possessed me, I should have bought a bloody wig! It is so dark on my sallow skin. I have rang my friend and she said she will come to the hairdresser supplies tomorrow morning to see what we can do to try get it back to what it was like before I made that stupid stupid mistake.
I have vomited twice today, I have been crying. I know it might sound ridiculous and its only hair but it has sent me into a sort of shock!

Has anyone any experience of this, please please please help me if you have any idea what we can do Im desperate. My 7 month old daughter hardly recognises me either and Im not changing it just cause of that but it is making things much worse. Wish I could turn back time - NEVER AGAIN:eek:

    Try this http://www.boots.com/en/Colour-B4.-Hair-colour-remover-extra-strength-by-Scott-Cornwall-hair-expert._1000976/

You can get it in larger boots like liffey valley or I got mine in superdrug for €15. It's absolutely brilliant, it doesn't damage your hair but it really smells.

If you're on facebook then like the page called 'Scott Cornwall hair expert'
that's the guy who invented it and if you leave a comment describing your hair colour, hair dye history and the name of the dye you have just used then he will tell u what colour you can expect your hair to turn out and also what to use in it afterwards to get back the colour you want.

Aw I totally understand what you're going through OP, I did exactly the same about 8 years ago, and then I cut it in a bob

I actually felt like a completely different person. My husband walked by me in the supermarket :(

I can't offer any advice, I just went back to the hairdressers, got millions of highlights, and basically started again. But I just wanted to say you're not being silly!

I have 2 unopened boxes of Colour B4 ( I bought and never got round to doing it). I am in Navan if that's any good to you, you can buy them from me at face value if you want and I'll replace them next time I'm in Dublin.

There's no pressure to buy them and I wasn't selling them but when I read your post I thought sure I could replace them as I am not waiting on them. If you are stuck and are near me, I would meet you in Navan ASAP.

Sorry for your pain OP, hope the Colour B4 helped it. They should really advertise it more, no one I know has heard about it and it's one of the best beauty products I've ever used! (well they have now, as I've been raving)

Thanks for the replies! After going into the hairdresser supplies and hairdressers I was given 3 options.

1 - strip the hair with efasor and redye
2 - bleach my whole head
3 - get a full head of highlights and start again

I've chosen option 3 as its gonna be the the least damaging from the 3 but thanks for the offer to buy the colourb4. I've been washing my hair with fairy liquid today about 3 times and I'm off to do it again soon tonight. Alot of the hair experts I spoke to recommended using either the green fairy liquid or head n shoulders shampoo to try fade the auburn a bit so the highlights will take better on wednesday when I get them. Oh and to put a really good conditioner on after the fairy as its quite drying. It has actually faded quite a bit since using the fairy today. I'll post back on wednesday n let you know how I got on xxxxxxxxxx

I'd really try the colourB4 if I were you, I think you're making a mistake not trying it first

I would agree with Shmatter here, I recommended this product on another forum this week and the girl LOVED it, she said she brought the product to her hairdresser to put it in for her and her hairdresser couldn't believe how good the results were! Most hairdressers haven't heard of the colourb4 that's why they don't mention it, also they can charge a lot more for rectifying hair dye mistakes by either stripping or adding a lot of highlights.

Hi the reason I have been reluctant to use colour b4 is I know a girl whose hair turned a horrible orange after using it and her hair is not in good condition after it so I'd rather not risk it. Also the fact that hairdressers don't use it speaks volumes to me as stripping is so damaging and I can't imagine why they would strip someones hair if there was a product that did the job n left it restored to the previous colour. I know an awful lot of people have used it and had great results but Im just not willing to risk it with my hair:)

Ah I see, well most peoples hair will go a bit orange because most hair dye will have peroxide in it so when you remove the dye your own natural hair will be lighter and probably redder, even the dark ones but I highly doubt the colour b4 left it in bad condition because it's removing dye, not lightening dye. some hairdressers do in fact use a product called Rusk Elimin8 which you can get in Sallys and it is the exact same as colour b4, maybe a bit stronger but it does the same job.
Good luck with your hair anyway :)

Im not having all the 3 options done - just the 3rd option which is the highlights. I actually won a competition to get 50% off my next session of highlights with my hairdresser Ben Garry in Navan on his facebook page and ironically I won it the day after I dyed my hair that auburn colour! Couldn't have come at a better time.

I wana add, mainly for anyone reading this thread, I've had my hair stripped twice (once to go from black to ginger, and once again because the hairdressers screwed up the colour) and it was damaging (hada use so mainy hot oil treatments ect,,), but I really couldn't notice anything different after using colour b4, except my hair didn't have that horrible dye build up thickness.
Sorry if I sounded pushy OP, but I'd always use it first even just to get rid of colour build up.

My sister has used colour b4 too because she......is young!

I couldn't believe how good her hair was after it too.

It does smell, but not like ammonia.

    Def 1st choice.

No you didn't sound pushy. On the colour b4 webpage it is not recommended to colour the hair until 10 days after using the product even though it supposedly says on the box to recolour the same day. It also says that most hair will be porous after the treatment. I'd still rather go down the professional route, thanks

It's fine to colour the hair after treatment but to ensure it doesn't go too dark you have to use a dye that will wash out after 6 washes, then you can use semi permanent or permanent after that. I know it's confusing but it does work wonders. I reckon a lot more hairdressers will start using it soon when they see how good the hair condition is left in compared to bleach.

What does your baby think now since it's been a few days?:)

Wow just got back from my hairdressers and after getting a full head of highlights. Didn't think there would be such a big difference with just the one session but there really is.:D

Wow thats a big change! you look great both ways, the dark colour really brought out your eyes, but I know its hard to get used to a big change. Glad it worked out so well for you :)

FWIW OP, I think you look absolutely stunning as a brunette! Really brings out your eyes and suits you far better than blonde!

I've used ColourB4 and it was great, the condition afterwards was brilliant. If your friends hair was in bad condition afterwards it was because it was in bad condition beforehand. Any colour treatment will leave your hair porous, even professional salon treatments. As zoby said, why would salons use something at a cost of €13 when they can charge hundreds for stripping with bleach, colouring and deep conditioning treatments afterwards?!!

Anyway, glad to see your happy with your hair :)

What does FWIW mean???????????? I prefer it as it is, my hair has never been that dark and don't like it, its depressing looking! hate dark hair full stop. I think my friends hair was in good condition before she used it. Im sure its fine for most people but as I said already I wasn't willing to risk it. I know the colour b4 is cheap and you get what you pay for imo. I wonder what the ingredients are in the colour b4? some strong detergent in it anyway to be able to strip even dark colour to a ginger. Nearly all who use it go ginger according to alot of reviews online. I suppose it's handy but my hairdresser is a genius imo.

It's not a detergent which strips the colour out, the colour b4 actually shrinks the permanent hair dye molecules so that they can be washed out and the reason a lot of peoples hair goes orange is because practically All permanent and semi permanent hair contain peroxide, even blacks and browns so that will have lightened your hair underneath and obviously the colourb4 can only remove colours darker than your own natural colour not restore darker colour to lightened hair.
You say you get what you pay for but nearly everyone who uses the colourb4 loves it and it doesn't damage hair like bleach can so there are actually plenty of people who would go for the colour b4 every time rather than going to a hairdresser even if they had plenty of money to go, it's not about the cost at all for me, it's about the damage bleach and the likes do to hair compared to the great condition that colour b4 leaves it in

    FWIW-for what its worth.

As Tayla said, ColourB4 shrinks the colour moelcules and allows you to rinse them clear of he hair strand. Any ginger or orange tones are caused by bleach and ammonia in the colour that was previously used. The only notable difference besides the permanent dye being removed was that my hair was literally baby soft, but after a few washes it was back to its normal condition, which is very good anyway. All of this information is on the website anyway.

"You get what you pay for" thats true. Tresemme shampoos and conditioners have been used in salons for years and yet they are among the cheapest you can buy.

Still think the dark suited you far better, but its all about personal choice, thank god, otherwise i'd be stuck with grey hair!!

(Edit: out of sheer curiosity i looked up the ingredients in ColourB4, the main "detergent" is Sodium Hydrosulphite, a type of salt which can be used in foodstuffs. Has to be better than bleaching and stripping.)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,400 ✭✭✭lukesmom

Funny you should mention tresemme, my hairdresser was telling me how bad it is to use and that alot of colour fades from people using this cheap shampoo also pantene is awful. I use kerastase they are expensive but you get what you pay for it leaves my hair is great condition and protects it. No point getting into a debate about whether I should have used colour b4 or not - fact is I didnt want to, I wanted the highlights not ginger hair and then colour over, end of.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,400 ✭✭✭lukesmom

I cant help but feel that people get conned into buying these colour erasers, as many believe it will strip out all colour. this is not the case and it will only strip out the last colour applied, which would be fine if they made it clear on the package

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,842 ✭✭✭shinikins

I'm not sure you read up on it properly, it removes ALL colour from your hair, not just the last one you put in. The instructions are very clear.

Wrong - From the man who invented it - Scott Cornwall - 'As a general rule (silicone damage aside) it will remove the last colour application and around 50% of a one prior. So it doesn't actually remove all colour!' Just leaves a ****ty ginger colour

Another quote from Mr Cornwall - 'Although the box says 'Re-colour the same day' in most cases I don't usually recommend using a semi or permanant colour on the same day as using B4. Mostly because if you select the wrong shade it will go to the wrong colour again! However, most hair types are porous after using B4' - So if the person who created this product is saying it leaves your hair porous and you can't colour on the same day - I think I'll take his word for it, thanks

Actually, i was right, but your quote left out a large part of his original post
Although it can be frustrating and costly, Colour B4 isn't always going to work 100% on the first attempt. As a general rule (silicone damage aside) it will remove the last colour application and around 50% of a one prior.

Its recommended that you don't use permanent or semi-permanent colours immediately after using ColourB4,
To achieve the best results after using ColourB4™, always re-colour with a Level 1 temporary (or true semi) hair colour in your desired shade, and rest the hair for several weeks before applying the permanent (peroxide based) alternative/variant.
and any hair colour will leave your hair porous, why do you think you get little tubes of conditioner in home dye kits, or your hairdresser slathers it on after you've had your highlights. I think your doing a great product a disservice by picking out only the negative.

Why did you post asking for advice, and then pour scorn over the advice you got, when you clearly had already decided you were going to a hairdresser's?

I was wondering this too, it seems a little strange tbh.

Have to say I think the brown hair suited you better OP, your hair looks less damaged in those photos and it made your skin look brighter.

Never asked for your opinion of what suited me better but thanks for being a bit*h anyway oh and I hadnt decided whether I was going to the hairdressers or not. I had gone into the hairdresser supplies and been given 3 options, I said this in my first post. I did say I wouldn't be using colour b4 and a few others have gone on and on about this product long after I said I was happy with my highlights and result!
