Can I ask what is the situation with fuel allowance and smokeless fuel allowance.

The fuel allowance is 20 euro a week

Yet smokless fuel allowance is only 3 or 4 euro a week.

Why such a difference, and is it to do with if you live in the country or a city??

    Thanks.

to the best of my knowledge fuel allowance is €20 and smokeless also known as smog is €25. SMOG is paid to people in designated smokeless fuel areas.

Sorry for the confussion,I was going on what a family member had said to me,when she was in contact with social wellfare about the matter.

She was entitled to the household benefits package, which she has now recieved.Allowance for Eircom,ESB and free TV licence each year.

So is she entitled to the a fuel allowance or even SMOG allowance, and does SMOG allowance of 25 euro get paid if she is resident in Dublin city??

Fuel Allowance is 20.00 euro, you qualify for this on certain schemes, sometimes after being in receipt of that payment for a certain period of time.
Smokeless Fuel Allowance can be paid separate to Fuel Allowance, for example on Illness Benefit (on which you can't receive Fuel Allowance). It is 3.90 a month. It is only for those living in city areas that have to use smokeless fuels.

Shes on an invalidity pension payment long term and also has qualified for the household benefits package (Eircom,ESB,TV Licence).

So would she be entitled to a fuel allowance too??
    Shes in Dublin City btw.

If you are long term unemployed you qualify for fuel allowance of €20 per week and smog of €25 a week smog applies to dublin city area. I cannot comment on the household benefit package.

    Smog isn't 25 euro a week. It is 3.90 a week.
Invalidity Pension is a qualifying payment for fuel allowance, but does depend on other circumstances, such as who you live with.
http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Schemes/FuelAllowance/NationalFuelScheme/Pages/NationalFuelScheme.aspx is where you can find the form. Fill it in and send it to Invalidity, they can tell you if you qualify or not.

cee jay... i was sure that people on longterm unemployed in a smokeless fuel area received €25 a week and those in a non smokeless fuel area received €20 a week forgive my ignorance if im wrong

Ah fair play to you mate, you are far more helpfull than anyone in social wellfare was to her.

She just keeps on getting passed on from 1 person to the next to the next on the phone, then told she should download a form online and send it in.

Now thats not what I call being helpfull.:(

Shes not having the best of luck at the moment aswell with regards her employeers and her illness, and shes very downbeat,so Im trying to find out and help her in any way I can.

So thanks very much for your help and clarifying the situation better.:)

Fuel allowance is 20.00. Smokeless Fuel allowance is 3.90.
You can get both together which would be 23.90.
Or you may be only entitled to one depending on the scheme.

    Right,thanks for the clarification.:)

Its sad to say (in some way) that you have use public forums to find out these things, its like as if the state dont want to inform a person what he or she is entitled to,that the state just likes to mess people about.

I've been on Unemployment Assistance for the last year. I'm on casual i.e.I fill in dockets to say which days I have worked. I have not worked since before Christmas. Between Sept and Dec, I didn't claim a whole lot of dole, a week here and there but I was on UA all the time.

Was I entitled to fuel allowance all the time? I've been struggling with money and didn't know about this til now.

Am I entitled to the 20 euro per week and can it be backdated? When does it stop?

    Thanks.

It can only be back dated to when you apply, so no. You have to be claiming JSA etc for 15 months and not living with someone earning more than €133.

'You will not qualify for a Fuel Allowance if:

Your heating needs are met under a deed transferring property
You live with someone who is not getting one of the qualifying payments for the Fuel Allowance'

A Fuel Allowance is a payment under the National Fuel Scheme to help with the cost of heating your home. It is paid to people who are dependant on long-term social welfare and who are unable to provide for their own heating needs.

The scheme operates for 32 weeks from September to the end of April.

Only one payment is paid to a household...

Ok thanks guys. So just because a flat mate is earning enough to not need it, means I wouldn't get it?

What do they expect, that he/she'll pay my portion of the bill?
