Hairdressing...Help!!!

I'm in my mid 20s and I have just qualified as an accountant after 5 years of college and three and a half years of training and exams. To my horror after all this effort I realise I am miserable and hate this job.

My passion is hair and makeup and I am filled with regret for not training as a hairdresser as soon as I left school. Anyway I have decided that life is too short so I am gonna pack in the accountancy and go do what I love.

So my question is which is the best way to train as a hairdresser. I cant really afford to go back to college so I was considering training with a salon. If I train with a salon will you receive a qualification that will enable you to work in other salons?

Also what is the money like while you are training and when you qualify? I know this industry is not known for large pay packets but I would like some idea of how much.

Finally as a child I had asthma I have since grown out of it and have no problems but I am afraid the dyes etc. could bring it on again? When I get my own hair done its grand but would it be worse working in a salon as you would be exposed to the chemicals for a lot longer?

I would really appreciate any advice from anyone who is currently training or who is qualified!!!

you can do an apprenticeship with a salon for 4years get them to register you as an apprentice.
Go to college do 2 years then do another 2years in a salon.
Or some ppl do intensive course which they pay for.

To be honest there are no jobs in hairdressing these days!

Anywhere I know of there are staff being laid off all the time.

If you do go down the route of a salon you are trained with them and are sent on courses (colour, cutting, perming, upstyling and whatnot)

You will be qualified that you can work anywhere - different colour companies have different numbering system but they are usually quite easy to pick up!

Money - shite to be honest! When I first started full time training my wages was 165.32 a week!! Thats only 9 years ago!!

Roughly Id say you would get in or around 250 a week if your lucky, hairdressers don't get minimum wage they get an apprentice wage!

If you have any more questions feel free to pm me! :)
