Query regarding extra work

Right so a few years back I set up a small business venture, it was a new idea, but has taken off. I pay tax on it, everything is above board. We're not minted but it pays what doing grinds used to pay for.
However...I'm wondering should I inform my principal? It's totally legal and related somewhat to my work but a local paper has called me and wants to run a story on it...I'm a bit anxious to say the least as it can be hard to gauge what people might say or think, not that I really care but still I don't want to be seen as too interested in anything but my job at school. Any ideas?

Once it is done on your time and your own resources(ie not pinching stuff from school for it)can't see how there would be an issue.

Are you in a VEC school? I ask because a few years ago I recall being asked to sign a code of ethics form. They wanted to know if I was involved in any business that may cause a conflict of interest with the VEC. It wouldn't be any harm to check with your union before proceeding with telling your principal. If there is going to be a story in the press about it, you'd be as well off telling your principal, out of courtesy anyway.

I reckon that it might be advisable just to mention in passing to your principle that there will be an article in the paper. It would be kind of akward if it mentions that you teach in the school and the principal was asked about the venture of one of their teachers that they didnt know about.

Fair play to you for having the entreprenurial skills to undertake something outside of school time. Im still so new that all my free time is spent preparing resources and other school stuff.
