Worried about immersion sound....

We live in an area where the water has a fair bit of limescale and I was wondering how much of an effect this can have on the immersion tank over time?
When heating our immersion it was quiet but in the last few weeks its gotten fairly noisy, which cant be good.
It almost sounds like a space ship or something taking off, it comes and goes.
Is there a way to protect the tank or something?
    Should I be worried?

your hot water cylinder has an overflow, which usually spills into the tank in the attic, when its on and making that noise check and see if any water is comming out of the overflow. to the best of my limited knowledge this is a sign that the stat in the dual group isnt working and might be over heating the water in the tank.

I`m more worried about the lime scale build up on the element?
Our kettle is gotten bad due to the water, its all white inside it and it even sounds bad.
Surely there must be a way of tanks handling lime scale?
