    Folks,

My local community center have Eircom broadband installed with Netopia wireless router, also has 4 ether ports. Problems is the local center have got six data points installed and want to connect the pc's hardwired to the router.

Would I need a 8 port ethernet switch with a crossover cable to the eircom router to allow the pc's to pickup an ip address?

    Thanks

Yeah, get an ethernet switch to connect all the PC's to. Then a standard patch cable to connect the router to the switch. No need for crossover cable. The PC's will still get IP addresses from the router.

A four port switch will give you connections for 7 PCs (3 remaininf on the Netopia + 4 new ports), and may be cheaper than an 8 port ....... or you could use an old router someone may have lying about to get the extra ports needed.
