I am thinking of buying a TL 100. They seem a straight forward machine. I looking at the manual shuttle as the electric one sounds like future trouble. Please give me opinions on the above plan and the good or bad news to go with it.

    New or second hand?

Electric shuttles mean an oil clutch which is a better job and will last years longer than a dry clutch which comes with the manual shuttle. I'd definitely choose the electric shuttle, such a comfort in comparison.

we have a tl 80 with a loader with manual shuttle.seems ok have her 4 years and no problem with clutch.had a problem with front hub but that was due to loader work probaly more than anything else.i could do with more hp for trailer/tank work on the road but around the yard she is a beauty.they are really just fiats in blue with faster road speed.wondering would it be worth fitting a turbo to her.three speed pto is handy in her for topping/powerwashing.

Do you top on the fast pto??

Our TD new holland only has 540 and 750.

They are a much more basic tractor thoughLG-New_Holland_TD85D_MFWD_-_2005.jpg

this all goes back to what you call topping. topping for me is just a clean up in june/july stocked at 3 per hectare on milking ground and could go to 4 at times so theres no pressure on tractor. also i prefer to go a bit slower and do it right once. usally spray is better for rushes and stuff long winded way of saying i do top in 750 and 1000 box

Interesting. You keep the revs down then aswel? Have to be lighter on juice also.

I was thinking alright you'd have to be only be topping light 'traneen' (forgive my Irish:D)

But still I'd be concerned about the stress on pto when you'd let off the clutch and she's winding up

There was a thread on this forum a while ago, discussing the merits or otherwise, of NH TL series tractors versus the Case JXU series tractors. Basically the same machines, give or take relatively minor stuff. Built in the same factory. JXU models are priced well below the TL models in the market place.
You might want to look at that option also to save a good few quid. There's a few around my area, and reports are good. Don't know of any New Holland around here, so no first hand feed back.
