    Hi all,
I'm looking to get a used car, I test drove a Mazda 6 today, was very impressed with it. It was an 04 1.8, I'd buy one in a heartbeat but I have some reservations about the MPG, can anyone comment on how efficient a 1.8 petrol would be?
    Thanks

    Have a 03 Mazda 6. standard saloon.
Great handling, nippy on the roads, NEVER had a problem in three yrs of ownership, Serviced every year no more than €100 euro(yes i questioned the price too).
MPG i used to get 37mpg(petrol) Lately im getting 34MPG (I drive 50km motorway non stop everyday)
Great car, Guess that fuel efficiency is about average for a petrol of the year and class.
What i lose on petrol i guess i make up somewhat on service and reliability costs!:)

I had a 04 1.8, great car to drive. I found it solid and reliable. However I changed it after a year because it was heavy on the juice. I was getting high 20's to low 30's mpg on average. Maybe a lighter foot would have got better return, but it was particularily heavy on petrol in the urban cycle.

my OH has a 08 1.8, the new model, she's getting around 38 mpg doing 75% town/urban and 25% motorway driving

Jeez, Thats not great is it. Was tempted to upgrade there lately, maybe not now. Such a gorgeous looking car too.
I know its a lot of urban driving but still wouldve thought a newer car would do better!

I had a 04 1.8. Compared to other cars of this size and year MPG would be similar or only very slightly worse. The Avensis 1.8 is prob more economical if I remember correctly but it didn't worry me. I did small to average mileage and the car gave zero problems. It also rides, handles and looks better than any comparable saloon of that vintage.

The 1.8 is neither as efficient or refined as some others, but it is very, very durable and the 6 is just a very good all-rounder.

38mpg with 75% town driving is pretty good considering it is a large family saloon/hatchback.

i owned a '04, 2ltr petrol model. Nippy car. 80% city driving, 20% motorway, got about 28-30mpg. Not bad really.

To be fair its a nice looking car, and is well kitted out and reliable.

If you worried about fuel consumption, buy a diesel. .. not a mazda diesel however.

Great car but dont buy the diesel whatever you do.

O and a facelift came out around 2005 - a lot of minor but worthwhile changes - interior materials and extra sound insulation AFAIK.

Great car , but jao diesles are just not good.

2 poeple got mazda 6 at work, as much as i see it , they love them.

One thing that can be with these cars: getting parts of main dealer.... You will get robbed.

    +1

I have Mazda 6 and many parts you would have to buy from main dealer because motor factors don't have them. And if you have to go to main dealer they will charge you an arm and leg for the parts. :(

We have an 04 Mazda 6 Touring Sport since new & love it, wouldn't even think of changing. Never a day's trouble. Really good spec & very comfy seats. Gives us about 37/38mpg around town. 40+ on long journey.

I have an 04 touring 1.8. It's the best car I've ever had and have had no issues with it since I bought it in 2006. I don't use it as much as I used to (getting bus into work these days), andit's not great on MPG. But for long journeys it's a joy to drive.
