Was probably obvious what his intentions actually are, 'cause they are to me from his opening post :D

This is happening in my area a lot. One club in particular are letting in anyone just to get more money from them to fill the club coffers. Then, these lads get guns and shoot the ****e out of EVERYTHING and permission or club territory don't bother them

What type of gun are you getting that will make a difference. If it's 22lr or shotgun then I have phone number that you could try.

heres just a thought, why not join a gun club for the reason of getting involved in the club ie. vermin control, game rearing etc. its only if members will do these things that we will have clubs.

sorry about my rant but your licence is for 3 years, after your first year in the club and you dont renew your membership, the club tells the law that you are not a member and have no insurance, permission to shoot on club lands, and the garda comes and revokes your licene.

We are not going down that road but 5 people didnt re join this year and it has been decided that if these look to rejoin when the licences are due they will be charged for the full three years, one guy suggested they pay for the arrears.

Proper order! and you should notify local Super he/she might 'encourage' them to pay up or loose their firearms ;)

I know , but worth a try ;) One of my clubs is charging for membership & NARGC contribution/s missed (nice bit of money for club kitty :)), another is refusing re-admission to club

We will let anyone into the club no hassel, subject to a couple of provisios which I have said before, but in year 2 of a three year cycle you decide not to rejoin then its either going to be very expensive for you next time or you can go away.

I wrote to all members who didnt re insure in line with Advises from the NARGC and then sent a copy of our updated membership to the Barracks, Thats all anyone can do. I do notice however that Lads are becoming very cynical of lads wanting to join which isn't good

alot of genuine guys would be priced out of the sport if 3years membership had to be paid in advance with the way things are!i understand about charging for arrears if someone only joins every 3years just for alicense.

our club did the same ,we handed a list of current gun club members into our local garda stn ,to stop lads doing exactly what you were saying CS

No we don't expect anyone to pay in advance unless you originally joined to get membership to cover the licence and then in year two decided not to join. In short its a big FO.

In fact with two of our members we took the €80 membership (including NARGC fund) in installments, its the sign of the times. We are loosing a good member to the sunnier climes of down under shortly:(

€50 is your insurance €30 is the clubs bit, we get in €1200 a year in membership fees every now and again we will have a draw and push the kitty up a couple of grand. we will split the monies with the local charities/school

You dont need mega bucks to have a good working club.

A club is only as good as its members.

In our club (Your €30 gets you)

150 poults a year put out, (not many but enough to keep the numbers up alternate 2/3 cocks all cocks. Sometimes too many hens are a bad thing, older females not letting younger ones bread.

Since christmas we have been shooting foxes every Sunday except last.
We have the usual 1st September and 1st November competitions.
Mixed bag twice over christmas (assist getting the grub for the game night)
we are running a game to eat night in March.
We have 3 annual club shoots a year (More actually because the main clay shooters go to flappers and CSI shoots, practice for county shoot etc) and I keep the scores/league.

Ongoing vermin competition 2 cartridges for each mag, grey, etc etc.
(not much you say but at least your getting a couple of boxes of shells)

43 members on a good day 20 will turn up, and thats a good day.

I am also a member of a club where membership only is €80 and another where I pay €20

Im not shooting long, but joined a club this year. Thinking of not re-newing membership next season as the way I was treated by club officials on power trips was way out of line. Constant hassle from them.
I joined the club with the intention of putting work in with them and getting on and stay a member for many years.

Id feel hard done by if I decided to leave and a club official went to the guards saying I wa sin breach of my licence rules. I didnt just join the club for my licence. If some hierarcy in some clubs acted in a decent manner more people might be fond of the club as the club was a good sociable thing for the individual. I can honestly say my club is far from a friendly bunch!

what kind of hassle?? Maybe the club would feel hard done by too, thinking you just joined for the licence. Im in a club, but dont have it as my reason for owning the guns. So i can leave no problem.

If you have the club as your "good reason" and you leave unless you have another "good reason" namely written permission/s from some landowner/s and/or membership of an authorised club/range etc your licence could be revoked.

You're giving your side. We don't have the "other" side so hard to know if you're the 'victim'.

You're saying you won't rejoin not that they're kicking you out. Lots of clubs are simply clubs in name only. Basically just a group of lads/ladies who use it to get NARGC insurance.

You don't have to be in a club to do vermin control, raise birds etc. I do my own thing and if the clubs I'm in do something I do that as well.
