    Again, MATHS is to blame.

FF had enough support in 2007 with the independents and PDs to form a government without the Greens.

Proves my point that the GP didn't have to get into the bed with FF. The GP made that decision, not maths

With Enda Kenny's views clear, the choice was between watching a FF government in action, or implimenting as many Green policies they could with only 4.7% support. I'm glad now, and will be even happier in the future once the polices really come to fruition (Civil Partnerships, Insulation, Energy Security, largest water infrastructure investment) that they choose to go into Government.

Of course, and we know what happened to the PD's don't we. In fact we knew it in 2007. The GP chose to take a large sup from the poisoned FF chalice and soon the political reaper will be paying them a visit!

Mary White was on radio today and she nearly fell over herself gushing how they jumped at the chance at power back then. Well and good, but pay back is a bitch.

As for power. OF COURSE THEY WANTED POWER! How else would they impliment their policies? I remember hearing them in Opposition talk about the number of Private Members' Bills they COULDN'T even get on the agenda. In Government, they were not only on the agenda, but passed!

    1) I should say I really like Trevor Sargent.

    and

    2) On side note I REALLY like labor's policy manifesto in regards to political reform. Which would see a whole extra day sitting (on a Friday) to hear private member bills.

What would you have wanted instead? Another election? THe only other option was FF/Labour.

Wow, with that sort of reasoned rhetoric, how could anyone disagree...?

Oh yes and opposition parties are only after it for the power as well, I'm sure. And we can hand them some "pay back" in 2016. And so the wheel turns. What a pointless way to view politics.

Reading though this thread I cannot help but feel it is like the survivors of the Titanic discussing how fair it is that some people have cushions and some don’t, instead of asking who the hell sunk the bloody ship!

FF was in charge of the country. We had the highest land and house prices, the highest food and pharmaceutical prices. A health service on its knees and top heavy with administrators and 850 Quango’s doing nothing but getting in the way and duplicating work that government should have been doing.

I heard Lennahan on the radio today defending the €90.000 payment to retiring ministers. His defence? Precedence! This is what we have been doing for some time. Never mind that they took €8 a week off the blind. Medical cards from the over 70’s.

How quickly the mask of “ we have changed, we are a new party” has slipped.

The walrus and the carpenter are here, hypercritically munching on us oysters.

You have to hold FF responsible.

The Greens have forfeited our respect by supporting the inclusion of the senior bondholders in the banks. THAT is what has crushed this Country.

I have not heard either party give a rational account of the stupidest and most destructive decision in Irish history.

We all know who sunk the ship. However many FF supporters still insist on telling us that it was the iceberg's fault!

All led by a man who has no tax clearance cert and who said "Sitting on the sidelines, cribbing and moaning is a lost opportunity. I don't know how people who engage in that don't commit suicide because frankly the only thing that motivates me is being able to actively change something".

Given that he has been misleading the electorate since he took his ministerial office over the state of the economy, etc. nothing from him surprises me.

Wow - I didn't think anyone actually believed that crap!

This is Ireland - we don't do accountability!

I noted your reference to 'the Irish Free State' in the Irish Language thread and I'm puzzled - the Irish Free State operated from 1922-1937.

I'm well aware of this. I'm merely throwing it in there for sh*ts and giggles. The original point still stands how and ever; Dublin people have the most fertile land in the country and would not be dependent upon highly subsidised farms down the country for their sustenance. Anyone (not that you did of course) who argues differently is wrong.
