10 Kids + 1 On The Way

Guy on 2FM this morning with Ryan Tubridy who is the proud father of 10 kids.

(Before you start, yes I know I was listening to Tudridy, but not for long:cool:)

The guy won a short holiday, I'm sure he and his wife need it!

The couple is expecting another child soon enough.

I don't know if they're religious nuts, but 10 kids + 1 on the way seems a bit crazy to me.

Each to their own I suppose. My best mate is from a family of 11, weren't mad catholics or anything. I dunno what the story was tbh

But they're a very tight knit bunch, couldn't meet a nicer crowd and there's always someone to look after you in that house.
I've known a few large families and they always seemed to be rather close
(and not in a "I'm gonna marry me cousin" type of way)

I'd say the problem is more lack of a sleeve tbh.

Big or bigger families were quite common in the past in Ireland. Generally a family of 5 or more these days is regarded as an exception.
But 10 with 1 more on the way, it just seems a bit irresponsible:rolleyes:

    Talk about a football team!

I wonder did they teach them to sing and then tour nazi Germany with their governess singing edelweiss and . . . oh wait a second, thats The sound of music, my bad!:p

    Why irresponsible?
Married couple and seems to be a happy family, seems the Dad has a good job in the airport, what's your issue with this?

I dont know thats why i asked. is it because you would prefer your 'taxes dollars' to go to 10 different families rather than the one?

    I have 7 sisters an 4 brothers! :D

My mother came from a family of 9 and my father came from a family of 10.

I feel a few people have misconceptions about large families surviving on state handouts, hope Im wrong. A father and mother are entitled to have as many kids as they want, not china.

I do have one objection. Everybody knows how grossly overpopulated the world is and this guy is adding eleven more people to it. Apart from that, he's happily married so I can't really criticise. It's better than some knacker woman who has a dozen kids by as many different men and she's claiming a small fortune in state benefits. You know, the sort you frequently read about in the tabloids.

Well to keep the answer short, if they can't afford the children they shouldn't be having them and expect tax payers to raise them - If the can afford them then they can have as many as they like!

But the reality is that you get a hell of a lot more childrens allowance for 11 children than having 2 or 3 children.
It's up to the parents how many kids they have but 11 kids is some responsibilty.

Your right its not China. So should be pay for people's heroin, let them have a few kids and give them money? because a lot of people have misconceptions about drug addicts!

If someone wants 10 kids and can afford them and look after them so be it.

My grandmother had 17. Granted her fanny was probably like a torn farmers pocket, but that was her choice

As I said if they can afford them, then they can have as many as they like - Otherwise do you think it's right for people to have as many kids as they like and expect other people to pay for them?

I would love to have ten kids but I've left it too late, might make it to 3 or 4 all going well. We can afford it and don't need your tax dollars. Vajayjay is still functioning perfectly, thank you very much.

As generous as the state is with all the benefits, you aint rearing 10 kids on the childrens allowance alone

Out of curiosity does anyone know what the childrens allownace would amount to for 11 children?

    €1,779 per month so €21,348 a year

That's child benefit, childrens allowance is the old name

Only goes up to 8 here....

You're right, I'm guessing the eight plus three rate will be correct, if there are no multipliers here

So lets say there's 30 days in a month that works out as €59.30 per child.
It sounds like a lot but once you have food, clothes, school stuff etc taken into account you wouldn't be long spending that.

I think it's great. That house must be full of life. When you go past 7 or 8 children, whats another 1 or 2? Sure economies of scale kick in at that stage and the extra ones cost nothing. Wouldn't fancy being the youngest though. 11th hand hand-me-down clothes, toys, buggies, etc.
