This years event is being held on Sunday April 17th. Once again Naas Gaa Club are hosting all cyclists. the 20km and 50km routes are the same as usual. There may be a small change to the 100km route in one of the sections but not much. We hope to see as many cyclists and families out on the day. There will be family activities on during the day for all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,679 ✭✭✭bcmf

@ Tiny. I think from my memory (which really isnt to be trusted) yeah you can enter on the day.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,831 ✭✭✭ROK ON

I could very well be in Dublin that weekend. If so I will do it.

@Tiny I will have the car and bike rack if you fancy a lift out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,440 ✭✭✭cdaly_

But it's an extra fiver on the day.

BTW, I can carry an extra bike or two if anyone needs a lift.

Yeah guys there is a change to route this year. At Donard we turn left and do a circuit around the Glen of Imaal area which is very scenic and lovely rolling forested area. Far from fast and furious. The route is on the website www.karetourdefoothills.com

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,010 ✭✭✭velo.2010

Folks, what time does the 100km start at? I can't find the times on the website, Maybe I'm blind and can't see them!

Is there food at the feedstop on the way? Silly question but its a problem thats arisen on more than one sportive.

    Thanks.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28 eamonnquirke

the start for 50km and 100km is at 10am. Reg is open from 8am. There will be food at the stops in Ballyknockan for the 50km and Donard for the 100km. Also hot food when you get back to Naas Gaa for cyclists upon presentation of your wristband. Last year we didnt have enough food at 100km stop but that will not happen this year.
Looking forward to seeing you all on the day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,010 ✭✭✭velo.2010

Thanks for that Eamonn. Look forward to it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,547 ✭✭✭funkyjebus

I think I'll be doing this as well with one non boardsie. Will be my first ever sportive so really looking forward to it.

    See you all there.

Half thinking of doing this to kick start my training for the year. Starting from scratch how much would the 100 k kick my ass?

Only seeing this now, but sounds good... will text you closer to the day to confirm etc

I ll be doing that as well. Have a rack and space for one more. (two if mvt doesn't come along).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,547 ✭✭✭funkyjebus

Doing this with a non boardsie, but he is only appling for his CI licence today so I assume he wont actually have it by Sunday. Do you need the physical card to participate or will your CI number or reference no do.
    Anyone know?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,038 ✭✭✭penexpers

I think the number should do.

Providing the mate who's lending me a saddle gets it to me in time, I'm in for this (and never buying a carbon railed saddle again, no matter how good a deal I get!)

Some sportives require you to have a CI license or to take out a one day license. I did Tour de Foothills a couple of years ago and I thought they required a license but I don't think anyone checked for it.

Also this year a one day license only costs 10% of the entry fee for a sportive (so ~2 euro for this)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28 eamonnquirke

You do not need to have a licence on the day to cycle. We have our own insurance covering the cycle. Look forward to seeing you all on the day.

slightly confused by the time the 100km starts...earlier in this thread it was stated as 10am but if I look at the countdown clock on http://www.karetourdefoothills.com/, it would mean a 9am start... I'm guessing 10am is officially the correct start time and the 1 hour difference is because the clocks went forward a few weeks ago? :pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28 eamonnquirke

Yeah we will go with that explanation sounds good by me!! Yeah official start is 10 am. Look forward to seeing you all on the day. Don't forget your suncream!!??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,010 ✭✭✭velo.2010

Weather looking good for this. Haven't done it before and the route round the Glen of Imall looks nice.

Shame my new 'special gear' won't arrrive in time.:D Club gear will have to do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 403 ✭✭MadHatter

Looks like I'll be doing this one myself. First sportive since the same event last year

A run of injuries, accidents and surgery has curtailed my cycling dramatically in the 12 months. The result is a sharp decline in fitness levels coupled with a dramatic increase in waistline. However, a solid couple of months on the bike now means I should be able to make it round, albeit hanging out the back once we hit the hills.

Since the weather is looking promising, might even dig out the old boards jersey (assuming it still fits!)

I'm in, registered online yesterday. Popping my sportive cherry:o. So see you all there.

    Two questions though.
    1. What do I bring to prove I've reistered
    2. Is there any stops along the 100k to refill my water bottle?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,419 ✭✭✭NeedMoreGears

    I'm in.

@funkyjebus - Last year there was water at the food stop. The route also went through a town or two. I would imagine they will have a list of who's registered. Did you print out the payment receipt? Perhaps eamonquirke can confirm.

Enjoyed this last year and it looks like the weather is going to be good

You have to survive the Lakes first!:D

Fair play to you for hanging to that group last night. I struggled to recover after our effort up the Batterstown rd. Rod Joyce did me no favours through the corners but I was in the red anyhow.

Eamonn, as a first-time participant who has registered on-line, what do I need to bring to prove my registration, or do I just need to quote my email id on the morning to get a race bracelet ?

Your name will be on a pre registered list on the morning when you get there.....no quoting anything required....enjoy

So just how hilly is this thing?
I've heard there are no flat roads in Wicklow ;)

Um thanks, but I was hoping for a bit more than that.
Maybe you or someone who has done it before could give me an idea of what to expect?

Hi Guys,Thanks for your interest in the KARE Tour de Foothills. We have two rest stops one in Cullens Bar in Ballyknockan for the 50km. If you get past that then there is another one in Donard Church for the 100km route. Tea/Coffee/food pack and a chance to refill bottles at both these stops.
For those who pre-registered on line their packs have been sent out. If you only registered in the last two days then come along to the "Pre-registered" Registration desk and your pack will be there, just tell us your name. If you have given us your t-shirt size then it will be in the bag you get along with wristband. If you did not then just tell the ladies at registration your size and they will give it to you there. All those who pre-registered would have received a registration form in their pack which they fill out and hand in. If you forget it or are only getting pack there on morning forms will be there on site to fill out.
The wristbands are important as it is with these that you will get your well earned meal in the clubhouse after.
Look forward to seeing you all on the day. Any further queries please post here and I will pick them up ..eventually. Dont forget suncream!!

    Hi Furiousox
There are some nice climbs in this cycle. Nice hilly section around Lacken/Ballyknocken and then from Kings river to Hollywood. Then after Donard we kick up around the rolling hills by the Glen of Imaal. The return back after the Glen is not too punishing. Hope this helps.
    Regards
    Eamonn
