I was recently doing a bit of coaching and went through a couple of moves with the lads. I noticed however that they had one move in particular which was incredibly effective.

It's pretty similar to this one

any moves stand out with you that have amazed you?!

Sextons loop... we all know he's going to do it, but it always works!

Not strictly backs as there are forwards involved but still.

For that move OP you'll need a fairly good backline or a very shít opposition. It looks far to complicated, I'd much prefer to see the 14 coming into the gap between 13/15 on full sprint while the 12 turns to his left after dummying to the 10 to dummy to the 13 but just as he turns giving out the pass to the 14.

Sounds more complicated in theory but I think it would come together a lot easier as the 12 isn't relying on 3 players to be perfect on timing, and if done right the 13 coming in will create a large enough gap for the 14 to cover a lot of ground if he gets the ball while have 15 and 11 on his left.

Lomu was the key to that try. He checked the Aussies defenders drifting. Perfectly timed as you'd expect from the NZ'ers.

Watch Mark Ella's try vs England in '84. Quick passing and double-dummy runners both inside and outside. Australia actually paid heed to rugby league in those days rather than act the maggot about it.

dunno if this was discussed before.. but i was always curious about an irish play where i think darcy drico hickie and shaggy (could have been others, but there was definetly 4) line up in a straight line in the middle against italy in 07... we didnt get to see what happened because the scrum was messy:rolleyes: and i think leamy was forced to break off the back

Watch from 1:30 to about the two minute mark....

Does anyone remember the Leinster match against Munster this season at Lansdowne Road where there was a lovely variation of the 'Sexton Loop' with Heaslip taking the ball through the middle. I've looked on youtube and can't find it unfortunately!

Yeah I remember that, it looked like Sexton was going to get it back but BOD (I think) popped it to Heaslip who burst through the middle.

Good thread, would like to post some more later, but here's a varition on the loop if you have a speedster to go through the heart of the defence. (yes, we've been using the Gafney loop since 2001!!)

I remember rewinding it about 5 times to watch it. It was the moment leinster's season started.....

I like this thread - gives me an excuse to look at some videos -

This is a good one, really simple, with the guy in the outside channel running an out to in line and the man inside him being the decoy.

How many tries were buthchered in that game?!!

Incredible handling by both sides then they get within 10m of the line and nothing sticks.

    My contribution:

A great example of getting a lot of runners running into the same area and then good pass selection from TOL.

That was the first one that came to mind for me. Couldn't find a video of it though - not without the rest of the game too (which wasn't bad either).

Know this is a bit naughty, its RL, but love this brawl/opportunist try largely for the reaction of the French broadcasters...

Was that Tana Umaga playing 14 for the All Blacks?. Don't remember him on the wing.

Started off on the wing I think, then moved to centre.

Yep. Just like Jean de Villiers, Umaga started out as a winger. They used to call him 'the other Lomu'.

That's a great example of broken open field running, not a pre-rehearsed move from the training pitch like the OP was looking for.
