What exactly would you like to know?

on the wiring diagram it says terminals c and 1 make on temp rise and terminals c and 2 make on temperature fall. I need to know which terminals are wired positive or negative

Are you using conventional a 230V supply? If so there is no positive or negative.

Is this stat sending a signal to an actuator by any chance?

yes 230v stat to control circ pump for heating of a range

What do you mean for heating a range?

Basically the 'c' is your common. This is your 'live in'. The other two (1 & 2) will make depending on a temperature rise or fall. I'll assume this is for a hot water cylinder and the stat is going on the outlet pipe. Then you need to connect '2' to the live connection on your pump. So when the temperature falls, the pump comes on to heat your water. '1' is not needed.

using solid fuel range for central heating putting stat on return pipe of primary circuit

Okay so what is the stat supposed to do exactly. Is it supposed to bring on the pump when the stove has heated the water to a certain temperature? If so it should be mounted on the flow pipe, not the return. If indeed you want it on the return, do you want it to stop the pump when the return temperature rises to the stat setpoint?

These two options will require different methods of wiring your stat. Which one, if either, do you want to do?

the stat is supposed to turn on the pump when the water is heated to a certain temp . its fitted to the return because it needs to heat the domestic hot water

Is that pump the only one on the circuit or have you got another one circulating the water through the stove?
