Hello I am a college student from Galway doing Music Technology in Galway Technical Institute. For part of my course I need 7 days work experience in a recording studio to get hands on experience of working in the music industry. I am really interested in sound engineering and would love the opportunity to get some experience in a recording studio. I am a very hard working and reliable person. If it is at all possible could anyone help me or be willing to take me on for 7 days? The work experience must be completed within the dates of 7th February-27th February (the days don't have to be done all together but they do have to be done within those dates). I really appreciate any help.

    Thanks

Yes you have to be careful approaching recording studios as a lot of them dont like or want anything to do with the colleges that teach these audio courses (its a long and sordid story). I would imagine you are coming up against a brick wall!

Best way is to make a polite phone call. Dont play up that you have done a course as sometimes mentioning some of the courses can actually make them not want to have anything to do with you.

Recording Studios are more impressed by a CD of your work and a genuine wish to start at the bottom (tea making) and work your way up. IE genuinely say the words 'i will make the tea' and also 'gentle' friendly persistance is key.

    Hope this helps

hey ya it was very hard to find work exp in a studio but i did get a few days in one in Galway which I loved.

Thanks for the advice I will definitely heed that when I start to look for a full time job in the future. Would it be easier to go to England or America to look for a job or would it be just as hard?

Also do studios still do internships and if they do what would be the best way to go about getting one?

    thanks

Probably would be easier to get a job there but there is still competition obviously and you will have to work hard to make it.

Have a look at the Gearslutz forum for work experience abroad. Never know, could get a job out of it!

ya its a good course and I learned a lot but its only a year long so I think if you were really interested in Music Tech you should maybe look into doing a longer course like the ones in Limerick or Athlone. But If the year is enough for you then ya I would definetly recommend GTI.
