    hey guys

Afriend of mine is looking for a tractor with loader and a trailer for bringing home his turf and general work around his house and garden .He has a budget of 4k ? What tractor with front loader would suit his budget and what he wants ? Trailer 10x6 or 12x6 should be easly picked up for under 1k even if needs some tidying ?
he would be better of going 4wd but dont think his budget will suit ?

    whats yer opinions ?

David Brown 1290 Couldnt go wrong. Generally quite reliable. Or David Brown 996 but i think you can only get the 996 in 2wd.

Theres a few 996 in 4wd knocking about but tend to be on the pricey side as far as I know, not sure if there were 4wd from factory or converred later

In any case I like the look of them

We had a slightly older '83 680, equivalent of this tractor. Lovely sweet tractor to drive. Very quite comfortable cab (cab mounted on rubbers and well padded), and great steering lock for yard work. Way ahead of other tractor of it's era. But also SLOW as hell on the road and they were quite prone to RUST, as this one is. Note he's tipped up the paint on the grilles and the wheel rims. He hasn't taken ANY photos of the back end, because the black flaps and possibly the rear lights have fallen off, all signs that the mudguards are riddled with rust! Stress cracks usually appear in the cab then as a result.

Edit: Looking at that tractor again, she's a fake! She's a 680-H with 70 90 grilles. He's put the new type grille with the square lights on her to make her look more modern. The back glass was also curved on the 70 90, she appears to be flat, as would have been on the 680. I'd say the 'timewaster' clocked all this!

It just looks like a tractor that was done up on a sort of DIY basis. Nothing fake about it, except the guy didn't try too hard to keep it original. Person selling may not even know whether it is a 70/90 or not.

It is also missing a door and the back wheels are off a 6610 or something.

You could well be right Maidhc, the owner might not be out to 'trick'. I'm a bit of a sceptic I'm afraid!

A 70 90 will make more money than a 680 though. And alot of lads have 'converted' tractors to take advantage of this. Especially the older 'fiat orange' ones were sprayed 'terracotta'
