    Hi there,

Now that the city council are finishing doing the bin collection, i have been looking at what alternatives are out there...A new crowd, Wastepal.ie seem to be offering the cheapest service, 20% less than what the council was charging...
I'm just wondering if anyone has had any experience with them, are they reliable etc...any advice appreciated!!

I've seen a good few people comvert to Greenstar PAYG bins, no brown bin but you only pay per lift so if you don't produce much rubbish/recycle it works out ALOT cheaper to any of the pay monthly options.

I only changed this week to Mr Binman (€25 a month NO Annual fee) from Greenstar (€31.50 a month NO Annual fee) exact same service..No Brainer really or as Del Boy! would say "You know it makes sense"

I just quit using mr binman. During December they didn't come to our estate once - and still expected to be paid. Their service is not very dependable and whatever way you spin it...charging for a service that you don't provide, is a rip off. I may look into this PAYG service.

The City Council don't collect bins anymore? Is that the same for the county? It's actually the first I heard of it.

The city service has been sold lock stock and barrel to Oxigen who will maintain the current set up at the same cost. Basily nothing changes except the stickers when you pay the annual charge invoice in.

All 3 of Wastepal's bins are that colour :p, they just have a coloured tab on the lids - black for waste, green for recycling and brown for food waste.

on this I signed up to the wastepal service at the end of Jan, so far everything has been fine, the package I went for was much the same as the city council only the price was lower and they collect every two weeks. also they send a text message to remind you to put the bin out, which is proving rather handy...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,625 ✭✭✭wmpdd3

Could do with the text for himself to remember! I have Mr. Bin man, silver service, 25euro for black bin every 2nd week, green bin every week.

True they were nowhere to be seen in the month of December, but I do live on a hill, but I called them and they took about 8 bags of recycling and a black bin and 5 black bags!

    Witht he cc I was paying €170 p/y+ €8 + €4.5 per month = €320 p/y
    Mr. Binman is €25 p/m = €300

Is waste pal cheaper than that? (tried googling them still cant find out)

We only pay €160 :) between the jigs and the reels there is little difference in price between any of them. Go for the most reliable service is my advice.

Signed up for Mr Binman today 130 for 6 months.

No hidden charges or extras. Lets see how it fairs.

    Happy though

Anyone use the waterfordcity online payment system? You have to use the oxigen website but this http://www.waterfordcity.ie/online-payments/www.oxigen.ie/waterford-city-council-customers doesn't work and http://www.oxigen.ie/waterford-city-council-customers says
If you are not already a Waterford City Customer and would like to sign up for this service please fill out the form below: (Waterford City Customers will automatically become Oxigen customers.)

Which is confusing, what you need to do is click http://www.oxigen.ie/waterford/register.php and type in your details including existing account number.

I have just gone through the registration and payment, not terribly impressed with the design esp when the page for my account details on are a "page can't be found"

Hopefully its all gone through correctly.

Just an update, got e-mail recognising I had set up an account with oxigen yesterday (only took two days!) and got the bin stickers today. So despite my worries the online system works.

bump for Waste Pal, anyone got any further comment, my 2011/12 Oxigen account expires
next week and WP looks the best bet for me @48 per year and 11.50/4.50/3.00 pay per bin.

Mike65 changed to Wastepal before xmas had been with Binman since they came to Waterford.
Paying every 3 months with wastepal costs €18.25 per month collection is black bin one week green/brown the next. Signed up with a friends account no I got 2 months free friend got €20 credit:)
Have to say they are great no leaving bins in the middle of the road they put them back where you leave them. Only thing will say to you is they come early so I tend to put bins at end of drive the night before so as not to miss them.

We've been with Wastepal for a couple of months now, took a while to get set up but they've been very reliable since, we don't have a huge amount of rubbish so the low charges plan has worked for us.

Also they offer intro. fees etc. for bringing new customers, so if you know someone who is already with them.....
