    Hi Guys
I got a new double din JVC AVX830 for Xmas
    Its great, but...
It loses its memory every time i turn off the car.
    Anyone any idea's why?
I installed it myself and it looks like all wires are connected, but im obviously missing one...
There is a suspicious red one with a hoop on the end of it

    Any idea's?
    Thanks

You need a constant supply to the radio, you currently only have an ignition supply.

Which one would that be? How to find the wire in the car, and where it should go in the radio?
    Thanks!

There should already be a permanent supply there.

It has been a long time since I had to actually wire a radio but afair there should be 2 supplies, one red, one yellow. I think the yellow one is the perm supply.

If you can't find the vehicles perm supply for the radio check to see if your cigarette lighter has a perm supply and take it from there

    It is strange...
Anytime ive ever had to install a radio before i just hooked up the 2 iso connectors and it worked away perfectly.
The last guy who had my car did quite a bit of hacking with the radio.

So the permanent supply should be through one of the iso connectors right?
Or would it be a separate dedicated wire? Maybe that pesky red with the loop on it?

Sometimes the 2 are back to front. AFAIR, that happened me with a VW before. The red with the loop I think is for an electric antenna

It's not the red loop at all I'd say, most likely the constant live and switched live are switched.

This is a standard ISO plug http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f112/monkeyrabit/radio/DSC03238.jpg

The red is the switched live and the constant is the yellow. You need to make sure these are going into the right places in the plug because if they arn't or if one is missing then when you connect to the radio ISO plug you can have the switched and constant back to front.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

Standard response I've always seen to this question is to swap the red and yellow wires.

+1 on swapping the wires, common on vw and fiat anyway

    Thats the trick!
They even had little clips so no cutting/soldering required...

Having this problem again on a different car...
But i cant figure out which wire is which.

Ideally all you need to run a radio is red(+5v continuous), black(gnd), yellow(+5v on ignition)? Is all that right?
I scoped all the wires and im only seein 1volt on red...

You need a permanent 12V live, a common negative and a switched positive from the ignition.

If you can't find them, use a multimeter and that'll help out a bit.

I have a similar problem with my new stereo.

Its also a JVC, just put it into my Peugeot.

Problem with mine that as well as the memory being wiped every time i turn the stereo off, it keeps playing even when the keys are out of the ignition.

I have to turn it off manually for it to stop working.

switch the red and yellow live feeds over. Most new radios have bullet connections on the wires to leave this easier
