Quick Question

Hi just a quick question regarding minced beef.
If you cook mince beef on it's use by date to make say shepherds pie or spaghetti bolgenese, will the said cooked dish be unsafe to eat the day after?
The mince was perfect the day of cooking, but the label says it had to be used that day. Does the cooking process in any way prolong it's use by date? Or should you throw out the remaining sheperd's pie, or whatever the next day, as the use by date is one day out at that stage?

No, it'll be fine. Once meat is cooked, it's fine for about 3 days, regardless of the use by date.

So, say it's the 12th and you cook mince that has a UB date of the 18th - you'll only have 3 days from the 12th to eat it. But if you cook it on the 18th, you add 3 days to it.

Thanks a mill! Looks like I don't have to cook again this evening so, can just reheat. It's something I've often wondered but never asked. Thanks again.:)

That's 3 days in the fridge, btw, OP. If you freeze it after cooking, it'll be good for up to 3 months, depending on the temperature of your freezer.
