When this kicks in (think its April) are you affected if you book the test before this date?

Something I was wondering......with the proposed introduction of R plates will they affect all learners or will they be the same as the mandatory lessons only affecting first permit holders from april onwards?

Don't want to make another thread. So another question, my learners permit is up in June. I hope to get my first test in ASAP so hopefully before June, but if I fail does and I have to get my second learners permit does anything affect this or do the new rules still not apply to me?

ec92: The first of the restrictions which will begin the concept of the R plate will come into effect in september, a lowering of the blood alchol level. The RSA have said this will not affect current learner permit holders. Details are still a little scarce.

McGarnagle92: You will not be affected by the manditory lessons etc. as you already hold a learner permit. The newest set of rules are aimed at people who get their first learner permit from april 4th on.

I already have my learner's permit but if I get my second one after April's new laws will I be subject to them?

Not due my second permit until November I don't think... Hopefully I'll pass the test this summer but if not I want to know where I stand!

Ok so from what I've read so far in this thread I think I already have my answer but I'll ask anyways just to be sure.

I've been getting lessons since January and I know there is a new rule coming in on April 2nd where I'll have to have 12 hours logged with an instructor. My instructor told me all my lessons (10 so far) will not count towards this and I'll have to log another separate twelve hours if I'm going to have a test after April 2nd. Is this true or is he just trying to get another 12 lessons out of me?

Do not take one more lesson with that fool. He either does not have a clue what is going on in the industry he is supposed to be working in or as seems more likely he is lieing through his teeth.
You are not legally required to take any lessons, but obviously it is advised that you do. The twelve compulsory lessons are only for people who get their first learner permit from the 4th of april onwards.
If you know anyone else who is getting lessons from him, tells them this so they don't get conned. Also maybe tell him, just on the off chance he is just confused about one of the most important changes to learning to drive.

Thanks a lot for the quick response and the advice, I'm going to finish up my lessons with him first as I'm already paid up and then just let him know he's made a mistake re: the new rules. I'll see how he reacts to that before I do anything else.
    Cheers

I would be interested to know how that goes. But do remember you can't name them in a thread.

I should be finished in 2 weeks with him so I'll come back then and no worries about not naming him -thanks for the heads up though, didn't know that.
