Was there for the World Cup

Not as pricey as the people say it is

Like all cities you will get fleeced in the main areas and get good value off the beaten track.

Roppongi is the main tourist area for easting out and nightlife, but you will get much better value in Shinjuku, where the locals hang out.

Take a day trip to the Mt Fuji area.

Lots of places to go sightseeing in the city

You could also get a Japan rail pass and go on a day trip to Koyto or an overnight trip to Hiroshima

Good rates to be had in a Ryokan, a traditional Japanese Inn.

    Plenty of info online.

If wishing to stay frugally theres a big capsule Hotel in Akihabara (Electric town - lots of gadget and toy shops)

Public transport is very reasonably priced and eating can be cheap also.

I've stayed at the Hotel Monterey Hanzomon, close to Irish Embassy twice and it's well connected by subway
