    Taken from Today's IT
Madam, – I was 10 years of age when Fianna Fáil, having won its first election, entered Government Buildings. They entered armed to the teeth, not trusting the people who had elected them. For most of eight decades, they have misruled this land with cronyism, jobbery, favouritism, and corruption and with their snouts forever in the trough.

Over the past few weeks we have seen them disappear with huge sums, rather than face an election. As each one left it was like a cloud disappearing. We had hopes to see an end of their power in Ireland. So what are we now promised? We are promised more of the same as they emerge crawling out of the woodwork. The same dynasties, the same arrogance, and their eyes shining with lust for power and pickings, still unbelieving that they do not own it.

I have watched it for 80 years, please God let there be a change. – Yours, etc,

    DERMOT C CLARKE,

    Wilson Road,

    Mount Merrion, Co Dublin.

This really struck a chord with me and I'm very glad I came across it. I feel like printing it out and putting it inside the front door to remind me how to respond when FF canvassers come knocking.

bringing Willie O'Dea back out is a classic example of this. FF are an absolute disgrace but would FG have been any different?
Unfortunately, this appears to be what (some of) the electorate want.

Look up Bruton's speeches in response to the budgets and estimates in 2003-2007.

He constantly warned about out-of-control government spending, reliance on the construction sector, a weak tax base and the coming reckoning.

Then why were FG promoting more tax cuts and increases to social welfare in the last election based on the same figures as FF, when they should have been telling us that the sector wasn't sustainable and we were going to crash and burn?

Firstly can you reference a source for the increases to welfare, not that I doubt it, just so I can see specifics. Secondly the opposition don't have access to the detailed figures government have, they work off the conclusions from these figures, i.e. Government forecasts, and lastly cutting tax while also tackling PS wastage, government costs, costs of doing business and loss of competitiveness and a refocus on exports rather than construction would not have yielded the same results as what FF did, simply cutting taxes and ploughing money into black holes with no visible reform.

If two people spending the same amount of money will get the same results regardless, why do people bother with investment managers, just give the dosh to a 5 yr old to spend.

Bulletpointed: Equal high spending does not equal same failed results.
