Should Eire have a public holiday for Prince Williams Wedding

Given that we are a neighbor of England and given that Wales and Scotland are going to be given a public holiday for the weeding, should we not as a sign of respect have a public holiday as well?

A national holiday to rid ourselves of the scourge of weeds is an excellent idea.

Sign of respect? Only if they die during the wedding.

This is not a troll by the way I was speaking with a colleague of mine in Scotland about a project and he said to me that they have the day off for the wedding! I am only asking what people think, why is this considered trolling? Jesus you can't say anything!

If we didn't get a day off when Cowen said he was resigning, why should get one for Prince William's wedding? Not a chance that Prince William's wedding will be a more joyous day of celebration than that

Just so you know, Ireland is not in the UK. Scotland is. You do know basic geography I hope. How old are you exactly?

Eire? Who the hell says that. Sounds like Fine Gael rhetoric to me.

As much as I hate work this is even worse than being forced to take good friday off out of your holidays despite not being religious. If I got the day off I'd go over and boo them.

Hello OP, Scotland and Wales are part of this bigger country/kingdom/monarchy which is known as the "United Kingdom", which you may have heard of? Another member is Northern Ireland.

I'd imagine this is where your confusion lies, you see the Island of Ireland we all live on is actually two countries; no really, it is, honestly! And while Northern Ireland remains a part of the UK, the part we live on- the Republic of Ireland- is NOT a part of the United Kingdom. While we were a part of the United Kingdom for a long long time, we are not now, and haven't been for a long long time. (have a look at Irish history circa 1916-1923, for further explanation.

So OP, I hope that helps- this country (Republic of Ireland its called) is actually an independent nation, it has nothing to do with the UK royal family wedding because we're not a member of the UK whereas the countries you mentioned (Scotland and Wales) ARE part of the UK. (In case you're wondering, UK is a commonly used abbreviation for United Kingdom, much like USA is a common abbreviation for United States of America.

I hope this helps clear up some of your confusion OP.

There should be a public holiday on Feb 25th so all those working/studying away from home can get back to vote

I mean, we are a neighbour of Canada too (allbeit a distant neighbour), so heck, why not have Canada Day and National Aboriginal Day off too....

We're gonna leave this one here.
By the way accusing other posters of trolling is not really going to result in good discussion. It is technically against the charter. In future report posts as calling people out on thread may result in warnings / infractions / bans.
