Cooler required for AMD processor and motherboard?

Hi experts!
Have received all of my ordered bits and pieces for my first build (GULP)
My concern is that I have no heat-sink or fan for my CPU? do I need it?
The CPU came in a cardboard sleeve on it's own and the motherboard does not have anything that looks like it should go over the processor on the motherboard.
The processor I bought is an AMD Athlon II W4 604 Tray AM3 (HWVA #HV20PT64DE), the motherboard ASRock 870 Extreme 3, AM3, ATX (#HV1128RNDE)
Please advise....:D
If I need to get something please let me know where I can get it (quick).
I'm in the south-east so don't have ready access to a bricks and mortar shop....

yes you do need a cooler for your cpu other wise it would just fry on you but you can just buy an aftermarket cooler for it for less then €20 which are better then the stock coolers anyway

Should work well and get to you reasonably quickly.

You definitely need a CPU cooler. Don't even consider powering it up without 1.
You'll also need thermal paste if the cooler doesn't have some with it.

Too bad you didn't order when you got the rest of the stuff from HWV, they usually have very good prices on coolers.
Quickest/cheapest way now would probably to get it from Amazon (supersaver delivery seems to work under £25 at the moment).

What you're looking for is a cooler compatible with socket AM3. If there's no thermal paste with it, then buy a tube of Arctic Silver 5 with it.

don't worry about getting thermal paste tho if you've order either of the two coolers posted above because i know for a fact they both come with some
