I was diverted as well leaving the NUIG Dangan car park via the hospital roundabout. I saw a Garda Mondeo and a fire truck blocking the road up there.

If it was an accident, I hope no one is seriously injured.

How do I know it was an accident? Garda sign saying it, saw the flashing lights and the car gone funny on the road. I just don't see how it could happen on that road. Anyway here's hoping everyone survived.

I thought I saw an ESB van getting a Garda escort over the bridge so there may have been a damaged cable/pole involved.

Walked past it about 2 hours ago. Two cars involved, one was a honda civic and the front end of it was mangled, other was a bigger 4 door, something like a Passat, not sure though, didn't look at bad, melted rubber and oil all across the road. Lamp post on the side of the road was hit and was leaning on some powerlines, power was out from corrib village to out past the westwood along the road but im in Dangan and we have power in the estates, no road lights for ages though.

    Hope everyone is ok.

if there was a crash on newcastle road why would it effect power in dangan and corrib village. they are nowhere near newcastle road??

Dangan and Corrib Village are on the Newcastle Road. The Westwood's address is Upper Newcastle Road, Dangan, Galway.

Because, genius, they are on the same road, also, when a power line it damaged it affects a pretty large area.

UPPER NEWCASTLE ROAD IS NOT NEWCASTLE ROAD.Newcastle road is from the traffic lights at the hospital to the lights at cookes corner

There's Upper, Lower or just plain Newcastle Road.
Most people just say Newcastle for all three, I know I do.

Pedanticism is alive and well I see! I know nobody in this area who differentiates, it's all Newcastle Road to us!
