Room thermostats

Sorry for such a basic question.

If I go for 3-zone heating controls, with separate thermostats downstairs and downstairs, will the boiler and pump come on provided the temperature EITHER upstairs or downstairs is below the thermostat setting. My concern is that the bedrooms won't heat up in the evening if the downstairs stat has knocked off the boiler.

I'm sure that can't be the case, but as I've zero expertise I thought I better check.

I'm not an expert on the wiring of heating systems but from what I am aware you would have a 3 zone timeclock UP/DOWN/HW - the clock would send the power to the 3 stats that control these and then the stat will request the boiler to fire & pump to run and open the zone valve to give you heat.So basically my understanding would be if you have the timeclock set to have upstairs heating then the zone valve will open and close depending on the temp in the room, same with downstairs, so downstairs wont close off upstairs

What you are looking for is no problem snd should be standard installation nowadays, imo. Explain exactly what you are looking for to your plumber and electrician (preferably at the same time) and let them work from there. You should be asked if you want the space heating to over-ride heating the dhw or vise versa so it would be good to have this worked out in your mind first.

    .

Your downstairs stat isn't knocking off the boiler, it's closing a motorised valve supplying water to the downstairs rads. If the one upstairs stat is still calling for heat, ie, not upto tempreture, it will carry on heating upstairs.
