Iphone 3gs Help / Jailbreak / warranty / no service

I wonder if anyone can help me out

I got an iphone 3gs last April which was jailbroken (found out later on) plugged it into itunes and the software updated and the phone does not accept my vodafone sim. I ve reset the phone back to factory settings but still says 'no service'. I rang Apple and they said they are not sure if phone still under warranty (i still have days left on warranty). Originally an O2 phone so

They said they could send me a replacement phone and I return mine but would be charged if I keep it.
They would send me a box to return my phone and if its an out of warranty repair its 211 euro to repair.

Any advice how / where I can get it sorted out again

    What should I do

Apple can't tell you if its in warranty or not? You can check yourself on the Apple website in the support section. If you have the original receipt you may have to fax it to them, if they have the date wrong on their system.

Your phone is locked to o2, They won't send you out an unlocked phone.
You will still be locked to o2.

You will need to jailbreak it again and do a carrier unlock.
