Whats is the typical life span of a set of wiper blades?

My passenger side one is starting to rip (32,000km) on the car now from new (first set).

Also, what recommendations do people have for a decent set of blades? Nothing worse than a cheap set

I like the aero wipers, I would generally replace the wipers once a year when I service the car, as the winter tends to be a bit harsh. Something like a set of bosch aerotwins will serve you well, you probably won't find them in too many Irish motor stores and if you do they will be very over priced - best to buy online really.

I'd always go with ebay but you'll have people advise against as there's a chance they could be counterfeit but I haven't had a problem yet, I just buy the cheap ones you'll probably get them around 20euro with delivery.

I recently failed my nct due to one wiper being slightly frayed so I priced these in Halfords for a 05 Corolla. http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_11101_catalogId_15551_productId_380041_langId_-1_categoryId_212455
Plus they charge you to fit them if you can't do it yourself.
I rang FastFit http://www.fastfit.ie/ in Coolmine and they couldn't have been more helpful. Only charged me €25 for the blades and insisted they fit them for me at no extra charge! Oh and I've no connection with either companies by the way!

    http://aldi.ie/ie/html/offers/special_buys3_15809.htm

    €5.99 from tomorrow.

Before anyone moans about them being cheap, I had a set on my last car and they were as good as if not better than the Champions they replaced.

I've not had the same experience, actually got rust on the set I bought...that was like 2-3 years ago though so I'm not sure if the quality has improved in the mean time - in saying that I don't think I'd ever go back to regular blades after using the aero ones. Even on my old mr2 I used to have problems with the blades lifting a little when trying to clear the screen if going at motor way speeds, once swapped out for aero blades never had that problem again :).

I just got some Bosch blades from www.wiperblades.co.uk I only ordered them on monday. I'll fit them when I get home, but they were cheap but a good brand. And the delivery was quick.

why dont you buy the OEM ones from the garage?
I bought them in local VW garage for the wives VW golf for 18e, think your better off as the blades will be designed to fit your windscreen better than a generic one.

Do wipers come in different sizes, or is it one size fits all??

Just wondering would the Bosch Aerotwins be okay size wise for a honda jazz?

Also, are they easy to fit for someone no good with cars, or would whoever does my next service fit them for free?

The oem ones were never great. Would like a better alternative

Hi pog, normally different sizes checked it out on the wiperblades.co.uk site above and they seem to be 20 and 15 for the jazz, pretty good price on them too, I can see myself using that site in future.

Yeah great prices! Checked it out after that too and they make it very easy to find the ones you need to fit your car.

There are 2 different Bosch sets for the jazz. One at 10.95 and one at 11.95. Is there any difference between them really? The dearer set have something called 'spoiler' on them. Do you know what that is?

I'd probably just skip the bosch altogether and get this set http://www.wiperblades.co.uk/products/detail/wiper-blades-universal-retrofit-flat-aeroblade-20-inch-wb5-20-and-wiper-blades-universal-retrofit-flat-aeroblade-15-inch-wb5-15-twin-pack/
Big fan of the aero blades.

folks, wiperblades,co.uk have the legacy down as 20 & 16" blades but I measured and they are 24 & 18".

Can I just order any 24 & 18" aero blades and will they fit?

    Mines a 2009 but previous model (Mk4)...

Would these be the correct ones for a 09 legacy even though the site says 03-07?

This mightn't be relevant to your car, but I ordered a set for my Forester from wiperblades.co.uk and the curvature didn't quite match up with the screen. The blades on the car from new were dealer upgrade aeroblades, which were also stamped Bosch - they looked identical except that one was slightly shorter. I did a bit of googling and it turns out that only the Bosch aero blades sold by Subaru with a Subaru part no fit the screen properly. Wiperblades.co.uk were very good at taking the blades back and refunding my money, i'm having the dealer fit the correct blades next Friday.

That's a wind deflector plate fitted to prevent the blade being lifted from the screen at high speed or when you have v high wind and rain like we had today.

Kinda dodgy when you're bombing along (that'd be drivin at the legal limit offisher ;)) and the wind lifts the wiper preventing it clearing the water.

Tried the alternative's over the years and always swear by Bosch. Wipers are a consumable on a car and wear out over time but I've found the Bosh best. I prefer to see where I'm going no matter what the weather is doing outside :p rather than save a couple o cent on mega deal wiper blades

Also clean the blades every time you wash the vehicle as grit n sh!t gets bonded to it with road gunk this affects the blade performance and can lead to micro scratches on your screen.

PIAA super silicone are probably the best you can get.
    Not cheap though.

How often do you all change your blades ?
My 6 month old ones have basically just stopped working. ITs very annoiying as there seems to be lots of insects around lately

Depends really normally I try to replace once a year, pretty much after the worst of the frost and cold weather is done.
