Likely to see an alliance of Independents?

Todays Indepedent has reported that there could be up to 25 independents elected at the next election. If this happens are we likely to see an alliance of independents in government with the smaller parties? I've a gut feeling labour will head the next governemnt. I think eamonn gilmore will be more inclined to do a deal with these smaller groups and independents rather be deputy to the insuferrable boar enda kenny. I think kenny would do a deal with FF if he had the chance.

Your thread is about Independent TD's forming an alliance, yet in your thread you have a go at FG's Enda Kenny , in a way that doesn't seem to have anything to do with your question/thread.

As regards your question, I hope we don't have as many as 25 Independents elected in the GE.
I think it could lead to auction politics, in relation to what they want in return for backing an administration.

Alternatively, we could get small groups of like-minded Independents elected who might come together under an umbrella , e.g. Ind Health TD's; Business/Economist TD's. Yet each of these is going to be different and to want very different things.

I think it's highly unlikely that Labour will be in any position to be the lead party in any government, not even remotely likely.

John Mc Guirk (27) is running in Cavan-Monaghan. He is a poor mans Peter Mandelson, an absolute Machiavellian bastard and he really doesn't stand a chance up here. I'd like to see a number of principled liberal independents and Greens in the next Dáil (Such as Senator Ross) to act as a bulwark against a huge FG-Lab majority and to prevent SF the opportunity of being the second largest opposition party.

I hope the Greens do well in the election. They get a lot of crap from people who understand neither politics nor economics.

Yep. He also ran for TCD SU President years ago but got kicked out of Fianna Fáil for smearing opposition candidates (Accused them of racism with a proxy online account) Was with the Greens for a while. Now involved with the National forum (Center right group) He is the kind of chap who puts his greasy amoral paws in every basket. I've been following his career for a while as he seems to represent everything base and ambitious about politics. Now he's running for TD.

He was Creighton's campaign manager as well, was he not? And there's a lingering smell there, too.

Machiavellian is paying JohnMcGuirk a compliment.

This man has been in bed with every political low-life going.

Labour + Independents will never make a majority.. And i hope that FG dont have to take too many independents with them into goverment.. They will have to be constantly plamaused and be able to hold FG to ransom over their local issues.
I fear there will be a fair few independents elected..Id prefer it there were only 10ish.

Generally the benchmark in Irish politics, and politics in general, for whether a candidate is out of the question.

    In decending order of importance:

    Terrorist connections
    Militant communist connections
Connections to zealot (religious nut-job) organisations
    Nationalist-socialist connections
    Political-wing of terrorist organisation connections
Connections to political parties espousing communism.
Personal history of corruption (cash for political favours)
    Socialist connections.

He doesn't fit into any of the above, which is more than a good few candidates in this election can say! Having said that, his political career has been minimul; so in the absence of other performance nasty e-mail campaigns say enough about ingrained morals, notwithstanding his political flip-flopping.

There is an alliance of indpendents in the elction. New Vision.

Is that the Judean people's front or the people's front of Judea? Can never keep track of all these groups essentially saying the same thing.

Dylan Haskins impressed me on the Vincent Browne show. Some of his policies may be unrealistic and even a bit naieve, but he comes across as a smart young guy and the type of proactive young person that needs to enter Irish politics.

We need more independents unencumbered by chief whip politics.
