The search and rescue helicopter has been searching the liffey (as far as I can see) for the past half hour or so. I'm in Christchurch and its hovering around for the past while

yeah i can see the lights of it now, very unusual for the coast guard heli to be used for a search on the liffey, especially with it being so big and in the middle of the city centre:confused:

I thought it was the Garda Helicopter. Who knows what it might have been searching for. Maybe we will or maybe we won't hear about it on the news later in the day!

Someone in the Liffey, or at least a report of someone in the Liffey. Something similar happened in Galway city recently when someone fell into the Corrib. With the FLIR camera the Coastguard has the best chance of spotting somone before it's too late.

From what I know from another Forum last night R116 was airborne for Kilkeel and searching an area 5 miles off the coast of Dundalk Bay, RNLI on scene too, the reason being Red Flares were sighted at 20:30 they were stood down with nothing found.

Perhaps you viewed one of the Gardai EC135T2's??? They do have FLIR too.

Almost sure it was the coastguard heli as I was listening to Dublin tower (118.6) and they gave permission for heli to approach Dublin Airport via rwy34 at approximately 04:30 after they had found nothing

Coast Guard Helicopter from Dublin (Rescue 116) was tasked to search a section of the Liffey last night after a request from the Gardaí.

Gardaí, DFB and Howth Coast Guard were on the ground searching also.

Update today that a body was recovered by the Garda water unit.
