Discovery 3 Tyres 255/55/R19

The tyres on my Land Rover Discovery 3 are due for replacing. They are 255/55/R19's which are on 6 spoke alloy wheels.

Can anyone recommend me a set of tyres to buy for it that won't break the bank, or even a retailer somewhere in the country North or South that is keenly priced.

The tyres that are currently on it are road tyres but I would be hoping to put a set with some sort of land grip on them but still be good enough for everyday driving on the road. I had several sets of Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain on a Range Rover Classic and a Discovery II but I would not like to see what they would cost for the 19's on my Discovery 3 now.

The best deals are from the UK suppliers like Silverline, Craddocks, Paddocks, do a search and then see if Camskill or your local supplier can come close bearing in mind you still have to get an imported tyre fitted and balanced.

TBH, 19" rims and 55 profile aren't the best on Irish roads or off road at all, I'd switch to 17 or 18" rims and get some more sidewall although that would bump the cost up. There's a huge range of treads these days, you probably want something between a road tyre and an A/T. Land Rovers own demo fleets run on just standard road tyres. You probably realise you can't really get away with cheap tyres on a D3.

Annoyingly, 4x4 tyres are very hit and miss at present due to problems with supply. I could not get 2BFG All Terrain T/A 265/70 16's in Ireland or the UK last week, but I can get 75's from Camskill, no problem. Now I have BFG's on the back and some horrid tarmac yokes on the front. Camskill were also quoting several weeks wait for mud Terrains.

265/75R16 is the standard LR size for Defender and D1/2 alloys AFAIK, always found it odd that Irish tyre places want to supply 70s. Brother in law had them on his 130 and they looked wrong, he has 265/75R16 BFG ATs now.
