Is it just me or she finally getting the hang of it.. She seems to have quickened up a bit (as opposed to sounding like she's reading from a very slow autocue), sounding more confident and in control, not asking as many stupid questions, not pissing off the guests... well, has she, I asked ye a question...

Yes is the answer, has quickened up the tempo, noticed that myself tonight.

Much less pedantic than she has been.

She has the personality of a cadaver. She also doesn't read serious listener texts and e-mails, and prefers the inoffensive "joke" types.

I am baffled as to how Mary Wilson is allowed by RTE Management to continue in her high profile radio slot.

The great broadcasters - Pat Kenny, Marian Finucane, Gay Byrne, Rachael English etc - have one thing in common - they are HIGHLY LISTENABLE. They have charisma in some shape or form.

I HATE Mary Wilson's shrill, hectoring tone. I don't like her interviewing style. I don't feel good after listening to her. That's why I switch over to Matt Cooper - much more appealing. That might be the word - radio presenters need APPEAL and Mary Wilson only has the SWITCH OFF/SWITCH OVER factor.

She is so brutal and useless that she has almost eliminated herselft from my drive home. Trite comments, cutting across people, stupid "stating the fcuking obvious questions", jokey banter with that mucker Marty Morrissey that isnt funny and a poor grasp of almost all issues. Wonder how much she is paid ? 200k or so??

    Correct, queasy in fact.
stupid "stating the fcuking obvious questions",
The air of authority which she attempts to inject when asking them makes it all the more tragic.

yeah I know that tone, she particularly adopts it when she knows that she's just asked a stupid question to try to overcompensate...

I just think that she is not as bad as she was. She has certainly quickened up the delivery..

My god, the noise of pens being pressed, paper moving on the desk, scribbling on the pages..... same every day, could she not pull the damned paper away from the mic... And can the woman not retain anything in her head!!!

Mary Fitzgerald made less noise on "Make And Do"....

€200k a year to learn on the job! Not bad. No,she's brutal. By the way is 'solo run' an international term or just a GAA one?

    Portlaoise - A
    Portlaoise - A...

Despite Ciaran Mullooly correcting her pronunciation, still she persists..

I started this thread about two years ago when I thought Mary Wilson was improving.. But I have to say after further time has passed, she really hasnt got to the level she should be at at this stage... I find her infuriating... Constantly making mistakes whether telling the time, or introducing guests... Her standard of interviewing is really poor when compared to Philip Boucher Hayes, Pat Kenny, Sean O'Rourke or any of RTE's top people.. And she has this smug air of authority about her while asking the most stupid of questions, as if adopting that tone made the questions cleverer..

They should stick her back in the courts and give the job to PBH full time.

Have to say that I think her stand in, Audrey Carville? Is doing a terrific job. She comes across as a very pleasant and courteous interviewer (thanking guests, giving them time to answer her q's etc.). Today, she was interviewing RTE guy about salaries and she did ask probing q's that made him get a bit defensive. Would prefer to listen to her than any of the other standins for Drivetime.

Was thinking about her today... Not really impressed.. I think she is more suited to The Late Debate.. She comes across very straight laced... School teacher / mother superior type.. Very monotone, dispassionate voice..

Show the next temporary presenter in please...

I hope not as the sooner she goes the better.

Audrey Carville is a fantastic presenter. She also presents on the BBC World Service.

Great piece by Martina Devlin there on why we should get rid of The Seanad.

I liked the content of what she was saying, but she delivered it like she was reading The Three Little Pigs to a group of five year olds.

    She's no Olivia O' LAAYER-E

I had to turn her off, couldn't listen to her - it was like she was trying to sign it or something:confused:

Well this is THE most bizarre item I've heard about sex on the radio...

Mary Wilson: "Doctor, has the fear gone out of sex?"

Doctor: "Safe sex, is having sex with somebody you know.. somebody who's phone number you know !!"

Mary has just p1ssed off yet another guest with her smug, authoritatve yet stupid questions
