Downgrading a CO2 Pistol

Hey, I recently purchased a Colt 2009 Concept Rail CO2 Pistol (Cyber Gun) and was wondering if it was possible to downgrade its FPS?

It currently states (on the box) that it will fire a 0.2g bb at 345FPS or 1.1 Joules, which would make it unusable on a site.

Would it be possible to bring it down to or under 328FPS / 1 Joule?

If you bought it here, it should be under, get it chrono'd first and then go from there.

Thats what I thought, asked the saleman (for want of a better word) when buying it, mentioning the current Irish regulations and he said "sure they're pretty much the same"...

Am I not the only one who sees that 345 > 328 FPS?

Hopefully getting it Chrono'd this weekend and won't use it until I'm sure its 'safe'.

PS Thanks for the heads up.

Never mind 'safe', try 'legal'. If you were sold an airsoft device that is firing >1J you have been sold a firearm for which you will need a firearms license. Where exactly did you buy it, was it a reputable airsoft retailer? I suggest you report them to the Gardaí.

A lot of boxes state guns are firing over 1 joule, they're made for other markets and when the gun is downgraded the box isn't changed. Chances are the gun isn't firing what the box says, but sure check it anyway better so be safe than sorry:)

While I can't mention store names, i can only hope that the pistol is under 1 Joules.

Getting it tested is the only way to be sure, its just unsettling to see that the salesman had no interest in the Irish Gun Laws.

The 'shop' that sold you the pistol are obliged to ensure it is firing <1J so they should have chrono'd it before you took it out of the shop. Do you have a reputable airsoft retailer close to you who can chrono it for you? Bear in mind that if you are stopped with this pistol and it turns out to be >1J you could be liable for prosecution for illegal possession of a firearm. If you have any doubt as to the integrity/legality of the 'shop' you bought it from you should contact the Gardaí so they can investigate, it is exactly this sort of dodgy operation that jeopardises the future of airsoft in this country.

If you won't mention the 'shop' publicly at least contact the IAA privately and give them the details.

While the store I bought it from wasn't in any way an Airsoft specific store, the place I'll be getting the pistol chrono'd is.

I'm keeping all of this in mind, and hoping that I can deal with this accordingly.

I've also no problem reporting said store if there is an issue with the pistol, but once again I may be worrying over nothing more than 'mis-labeling'.:(

Did a small bit of research. That gun should be made by KJW, and normally should be firing at the joule level. Realistically, as Blay said, it probably is legal. But your best bet is to get it chrono'd anyway

The Pistol grip is different and its had the Colt labels on the side, but yeah, they seem very similar.

Just got off the phone with my local Airsoft guy, will be able to check it out this weekend, he's almost certain that it should be under the Joule already.

Had the pistol chromo'd today, thankfully averaged out at 295FPS. Still feels really powerful though, can't wait to practice with it! :D
