Have been looking into this for my new build but not having much luck. Surprising how many companies don't respond to emails for quotes.
Anyway looking to hear from anyone who has had MHRV installed lately, re suppliers and installers. thanks

Hi, you could also perhaps check out demand control ventilation as an alternative to mechanical heat recovery ventilation.
It work using intelligent inlet and extract vents which only open to allow air in or out when the humidity level rises in the rooms. They use a type material as I understand it which curls up when humidity increases thus opening the vents and allowing air in.
Typically an extract fan is used which is ducted to wet areas only - bathrooms and kitchens. The fan runs full time but just maintains a constant pressure across it. Thus if the bathroom is not in use for example, the extract grill there is closed so the fan only has to run at low speed.
When the humidity increases the vent in the bathroom opens and the fan works harder to maintain the pressure across it.
It doesn't do heat recovery however the theory is that it is more efficient as it only allows new air in when it's needed - when rooms are occupied and humidity has increased.
It was invented by a French company about 30 years ago and is very popular in France I believe. I investigated it last year and recently spotted that their products are now widely available here too. It is ideal for retrofit here as they sell products suited to controlling air input from our traditional "hole in the wall" type vents.
Due to the smaller amount of ducting involved and the less sophisticated fan etc I presume that it's a lot cheaper to install than MHRV although I haven't priced a fan yet. The humidity controlled inlet vents are about 40 euro I think.

I'm planning to install an extract fan for my bathrooms and will use the humidity controlled inlet grilles in bedrooms.
PM me if you want the name of the company.

Has anyone ever heard anything negative about having a HRV system installed in a house located close to a farm yard and near fields where slurry would be spread?
