I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice...
I want to widen the sloped part of the path in front of my driveway, theres just grass there and its not close to anything ie posts shore etc..
I would be hoping to widen it by about a foot an a half..
Do I have to apply to the county council or something.
Any advice would be welcome or if anyone has done it..
    Thanks

Once you are NOT widening or altering the existing vehicular entrance onto the public roadway, and are doing this within the boundary of your site, there is no Planning issues, from your description above.

    Thanks for your reply..
Its the path outside my driveway entrance. The sloped part of the path is where i want to widen.

read the post again rayjay he said he wants to widen the sloping path outside his boundry he cannot do this without contacting local authority in my own case they insisted on doing it them selves sent out 4 guys dumper+driver and jcb +driver and charged me 500 pounds (quite a while ago still bitter)

Short answer, NO, You cant do it without permission.

This is not your land so you have no right to do works to it but, more importantly for you, if it is as I now understand, public property, if there was an incident on this part of the path and you are deemed liable, you'd want to have some hefty insurance policy to cover yourself.

    Daithi,
nowhere in the OP does it state OUTSIDE HIS BOUNDARY. If nothing else, my time on boards has taught me to answer exactly what is asked, as an OP states it, and not to make assumptions. As the saying goes, to Assume can make as ASS out of U na d ME

The OP should check with their local authority - the roads department rather than planning department.

Many Councils (in Dublin anyway) will widen the apron across the verge in front of your house/vehicular access at a reasonable cost.

For example, link here to form for Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council (DLR CC) application form - http://www.dlrcoco.ie/media/media,2265,en.pdf - just to note that if it is an existing vehicular entrance the planning reference nos. are irrelevant.

In the case of DLR CC, you'd be surprised how reasonable the cost is!

If its your property, then you can go ahead.

But its its outside your property, you need to contact he council.

Guys, it was a straightforward question, why can't we give a straight forward answer.

We are trying to get our driveway widened and I know we need to get planning permission from Dun Laoghire Rathdown council, but I don't know how exactly to go about it! Some people say we need an architect or draftsman to draw up plans etc. This seems a bit excessive just to move one pillar a couple of feet?
    Any advice greatly accepted.

you could try it yourself, i know in cork there used to be a short version of the planning applciation for such minor works. why not approach your council for advice to being with..
if you need to submit a full application there is some drawings required including a plan, section and elevation (photos always help) with possibly some input from the local roads engineer regarding set-backs and anything in relation to the road that you may not be aware of. there is also the completion of a (to a lay person often long winded) application form, OS maps, planning add and site notice, including relevant cheque..
so the question is - can you be bother or is it easier to get someone else to do it...
