Fianna Fail In Freefall

Fianna Fáil's deputy whip John Cregan has pulled out of the General Election campaign in a row over the party's new front bench, according to the RTE website.

In a statement, Deputy Cregan said he had been willing to contest the election in Limerick despite the difficulties involved in the hope that the party could still win two seats.

So another one bites the dust. Micheal Martin is facing an uphill battle saving the party from meltdown in this election with the bickering and infighting continuing in the wake of Brian Cowen's resignation.

    Who's next to jump ship?

it was a case of ff winning perhaps one seat, or possibly none, in that constituncy, dread is a terrible thing, no wonder we are fcuked, when the people that raped my country will not stand up and fight for their seats, good riddance to bad rubbish, btw collins is not elected yet.

    Yep its on breaking news.

    http://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/ffs-cregan-retires-as-colleague-favoured-with-front-bench-place-491724.html

Seems to be no cohesion to them at all. Martin is doing a slap up job of leading them alright.

Personally i will only be happy when they have stopped the freefall and are extinct as a party

I think the new front bench will make things even worse, why would an FF TD stay or have any faith M Martin when he choose a Councillor over them.
Listening to Cowan now quoting JFK omg..........................

How many cliches will he fill into this speech?

How many cliches will he fill into this speech?

Plenty. Ceann Comhairle introduced him as "Taoiseach Bertie Ahern" which I'm sure will have gone down well :D

    The splits are widening.
In Sligo-North -Leitrim an atempt is being made to dump sitting TD, Eamon Scanlon, and leave the way clear for Marc MacSharry to establish a dynastic succession.

"There is mounting speculation this lunchtime Fianna Faill may decided on a one-candidate strategy for the Sligo-North Leitrim constituency, despite the outcome of last week's convention.

There have been reports of line-up changes in several constituencies, following on from the decision of Cork North Central Deputy, Noel O'Flynn, to stand aside and allow his constituency colleague, Billy Kelleher, have a clear run there.

It is understood Fianna Fail have carried out private polls to assess their chances countrywide.

Last Thursday, the Sligo-North Leitrim Fianna Fail convention selected two candidates to go forward for election - Deputy Eamon Scanlon and Senator Marc MacSharry.

A spokesperson for the Fianna Fail party has told Ocean FM news that there is basis to speculation that this strategy could be changed."

There is something deeply wrong with a country's political system and voters when two gobsh1tes like Healy Rae and Lowry held the balance of power.

    Fear it will happen again!

Why do you think McSharry was named a spokesperson the other day; cynical attempt by FF to get the second candidate in

And the chaos within FF continues.
Just 24 hours after Taoiseach Brian Cowen announced he was retiring from politics, the Fianna Fáil campaign in Laois/Offaly has been dealt another blow.

Offaly County Councillor John Foley is leaving the party to contest the election as an Independent.

It comes as party headquarters is expected to tell tonight's selection convention that it can only run 2two candidates - one from Laois and one from Offaly.

At a press conference this evening, councillor Foley said he did not support the two-candidate strategy as it would leave North Offaly without a Fianna Fáil Dáil candidate.

Really says a lot about Michaels leadership capabilities that he cannot even control the constituency of the previous leader of FF.

Well it is all probably part of "The Plan" LOL

Yer man John Foley is the gom who fell down behind David Davin-Power on RTE News at the FF Ard Fheis when all the partee loyalists were pushing and shoving to get their mugs on telly.

I'd say watch out electorate - there's gonna be loads of disgruntled little goms like Foley pitching themselves as Independent but as always, they are FF and disilluisoned FF voters will salve their consciences by voting in their droves for his type.
This'll be the big independent vote the polls are talking about.

And it gets worse for Cork Bertie, he now trails Enda Kenny in the latest Irish Times/Ipsos MRBI poll so now he doesn't even have that to lord over the opposition. Looks like the soldiers of destinys saviour is starting to go off.

Ah well I suppose it just means they continue their program of negative campaigning pretending to have a "plan".
