    Hey everyone, im new here,
My first question is: Im thinking about getting a .223 for foxin.
I already have a shootgun and had no problem with licence,

Im just wondering how hard it is to get a 223 licence?
Dont want to leave a deposit on a gun if i cant licence it.

Iv never owned my own rifle but iv been around them all my life,
Iv got experience with both rimfire and center fire rifles,

    Any advise would be great.
    Cheers

Should have no issue in Laois licencing one.
Several on here from laois have .223's with no issue getting a licence

    Was hoping thats the case,
Just thought there might be issues with me not owning a smaller calibre first.

Oh yeah, apply for a moderator while you are at it as the .223 has a loud report

If you go to the main station you will get best results, I found local 3 day a week stations are very difficult to get FO's in attendance and applications processed.

Max would be 3 months, however in Laois you would usually have it back in around 4-6 weeks, a rifle used to need a higher clearance check, not sure if it is still the same.

You apply, the application is processed, if you are lucky you will have it back in a payment letter in a couple of weeks.
Pay it in the Post office and you could have the permit quite quick.

However, this is not ALWAYS the case countrywide. It really depends on how prompt your application is dealt with

I found that with the shotgun alright.
I rang the station and made an appointment with the guard over the licencing, filled out the forms with him to make sure it was alright, picked up the gun 4 weeks later

anyone here have trouble getting a .223 license in waterford. Have sourced a very clean remington rifle with scope for e690 and want to put a deposit on it. Not enough range on the shotgun and since the ban on poison the foxes have doubled in numbers since last year

I just got my .223 licence on Monday and Tac is dead right, if you go to your main station your prob better off.
My local Gard retired so I had to go straight into town and it was processed in half the time. Took 8 weeks in all for me which I was happy enough with.

Course now I have the gun AND a bastard of a flu so I'm shakin looking out the window busting to get out for a shot.....:(
