    Morning all.
As we all now know the season for pheasants has been extended for February. Local club has decided to cease shooting, season is over for game on club ground.

Question is- Can a person shoot their own permission land that is not designated club land? In saying that its a few miles away from club land.
Ive been told by a local man that even though Im in the club I cannot shoot my own permissions because the club season is over. Surely this cant be true.

In a nutshell you're right, it is crap.

Gunclubs do not set the season. The Minister does. If a club decides that no shooting will take place over club lands during a season then YES you would have to stop as they usually have the sporting rights and control the shooting.

However if you have your own shooting lands, seperate to club lands and you have the shooting rights to that land then no-one can stop you from shooting as long as the game is in season. The only exception could possibly be the landowner himself/herself, but as long as they allow you to continue shooting there is not problem.

    Thanks for your reply.
I have asked a few members of the club and some of the board and there all saying different. Nothing is ever black and white there is always grey areas :(
I'll asses the situation on my own permissions, if there are too many Cock pheasants per one hen it would be wise to control the population. If all seems ok, I will not hunt

From a "legal" point of view, you are completely in the clear, but from a club point of view it could go against their "wishes". You would be in the best position to decide whether to continue to shoot or not.

You can shoot if you want....there is nothing stopping you....However as a club it was decided the shooting was over. Now thats no different than I going to 3 spots where I have permission in Sligo and shooting because I'm not in the club whose land I shoot in Sligo but have permission.

Its up to you what you do in the end< I know for example a few farmers I know who would be big shooting men not affiliated to any particular cub, that feels this extension is absolutely a disgrace. A lot of clubs are doing this as a FU to NARGC and the way they handled the cold weather ban, in fact I know one guy who got the opportunity to tell the powers that be in the NARGC where to stick the extension from now on manage the situation better.

I would advise you ask the farmer does he mind? and ask yourself do you really need to keep shooting.:)

Its not that I need to keep shooting its more being able to go out for a walk with the gun, do vermin control and a pheasant if the opportunity presented itself, I want to be on the right note with people i.e landowner and club
